On Sunday, Cameron Young captured his second win on the PGA Tour. This, however, is so far the biggest triumph of his career as he rallied back and emerged victorious at The Players Championship.
The American golfer had a disappointing end to the third round on Saturday. On the par-4 18th hole, he would make a double bogey and finish the round with an even par score. He was 3 shots behind Ludvig Aberg at that point, who was leading the tournament.
The Swedish golfer collapsed in the final round. After a bogey on the 11th hole, he made a double bogey on the 12th hole. This saw him go from even par to 3-over par within 2 holes.
Young and the others would capitalize on this. A bogey-free back nine which included three birdies saw him finish the round with a score of 68. This showing from him was enough to see off Matt Fitzpatrick, who finished 1 shot behind him as the runner-up.

While speaking with the reporters after his win, the American international expressed feeling like he did an incredible job.
Today I felt like I did an incredible job of just hanging around. I haven’t been in that scenario, really. I’ve been chasing. I’ve had people shoot 65 on me. Today, I feel like it was a great mental test of just how much can you linger.

At this time last year, Young was winless in his PGA Tour career. He captured his first title in August when he emerged victorious at the Wyndham Championship.

The 28-year-old had been in fine form this year. After a T7 finish at the Genesis Invitational, he had a top-5 finish last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
With a score of 69 in the final round, he finished T3 alongside Ludvig Aberg. The two finished 3 shots behind leader Akshay Bhatia and Daniel Berger, who finished level on top. Bhatia would eventually take down his American compatriot in the playoff round to claim his 3rd win on the PGA Tour.
The Players Championship Prize Money Payout: How much did money Cameron Young and others earn?
Cameron Young joined an exclusive club of golfers as he won the 2026 Players Championship. How much money did he and the others earn though?

The Players Championship is one of the 8 signature events of the PGA Tour. As it is a signature event, it has a high purse.
This tournament, held at the TPC Sawgrass, has also found its name in debates regarding it being named as the 5th major in men’s golf. While it is officially not a major championship event, it has a higher purse than the 4 majors.
Young was the big winner on Sunday. Following his triumph, he pocketed a record $4.5 million from the $25 million purse.

Following the win, Young also had a massive jump in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). The golfer moved up to 4th in the standings and ranked just behind Tommy Fleetwood, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.
Matt Fitzpatrick, who had to settle for a runner-up finish, earned $2.7 million. 2-time major champion Xander Schauffele received $1.7 million as he finished third. Fourth-placed Robert MacIntyre got $925,000.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who won this event back-to-back in 2023 and 2024, finished T22 and received $271,250. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy, who was the defending champion, finished T45 and earned just $72,125 from the pool purse.
The attention will now turn towards the Valspar Championship. After this, the tour will have two events in Texas, the Texas Children’s Open and the Valero Texas Open. Following this, the golfers will get ready for the Masters Tournament at the Augusta National Golf Course.
