Canelo Alvarez was able to emerge victorious via unanimous decision after delivering a masterclass against Jaime Munguia. The underdog managed to go the distance against the undisputed middleweight champion for 12 rounds. Across the rounds, there were moments when Munguia displayed his skills, but it was not enough against the veteran boxer. As such, in the first round, Munguia opened the fight with aggressive jabs and swift combos.

Saul did not seem fazed by this and instead focused on establishing his tempo for the fight, a tactic he often employs. Subsequently, Munguia landed a few punches during his barrage, but Alvarez kept landing precise shots. The young fighter continued to keep the pressure going in the second round and even managed to push Canelo Alvarez against the ropes. However, Saul continued to deal with his attacks by displaying his impressive defense while landing body shots.

In the third round, Jaime Munguia was even more aggressive with his attacks, and his youth and endurance were on display, while Alvarez only countered his attacks. The fourth round went similarly until Alvarez knocked down his opponent with a hook-and-uppercut combination. Munguia managed to brush off the damage but slowed down his attacks considerably.

The knockdown affected the younger fighter’s confidence, but it did not stop him from pushing forward. However, Alvarez maintained his cool from the beginning of the fight until the final bell. As such, the Mexican superstar was able to emerge victorious because of his boxing IQ and power.

Fans react to Canelo Alvarez’s victory

The fight between the two Mexicans was certain to be a class Mexican brawl and a sight to behold. Even though Munguia lacked experience compared to Alvarez, he attempted to overcome it with his stamina. However, Alvarez showed fans why he is known as the face of boxing and destroyed the notion that his performance inside the ring is declining.

The masterclass delivered by Alvarez certainly impressed fans, but most fans felt that his opponent was not on the same skill level as him.

Some fans felt that there was an immense gap between the level of skill and experience between the fighters. This prompted a lot of fans to demand that Alvarez fight David Benavidez next. Furthermore, fans also acknowledged Munguia for going toe to toe against the undisputed champion even after being knocked down.
