Irish midfielder Carl McHugh has signed a new one-year deal with ATK Mohun Bagan, which will keep him at the club until the 2021/22 edition of the Indian Super League.
“Brace yourselves for some more stability and composure in the Mariners Midfield as #CarlStays on in #ATKMohunBagan! Here’s hoping he brings some more luck of the Irish for us this season!” the club’s social media captions read.
Carl McHugh started his ISL career with ATK during the 2019/20 edition of the Indian top-tier league. He played six matches for the Kolkata based club in his debut season and also found the net once. For ATK Mohun Bagan, he played 23 matches to date and will look to make more appearances in the coming season.
The Irish player can play at various positions in the defence and midfield. He can over the pitch in a short span of time and will look to provide his best services to ATK Mohun Bagan in the upcoming edition of the ISL.
He has played for Reading, Bradford City, Plymouth Argyle and Scottish club Motherwell. Among all clubs he has played for, there are the most prominent ones.
The upcoming edition of the ISL is expected to commence in mid-October, and ATK Mohun Bagan will look to grab the silverware after failing to win the trophies last season. They lost the ISL trophy & ISL shield to Mumbai City FC.
They were favourites to win the title last season but ended up on the losing side, having lost to the Islanders during both the crucial encounters.
Can ATK Mohun Bagan win ISL 2021/22?
The Mariners will look to retain their core squad ahead of the upcoming season. They will also look to build a strong foreign contingent and give their opponents a run for their money in ISL 2021/22. ATK Mohun Bagan will surely start the season as favourites and are a strong side on paper as of now.
