- Carlos Alcaraz will miss the Madrid Open due to a wrist injury sustained at the Barcelona Open.
- He humorously criticized Andy Murray for teasing him during a golf game, calling him "a b*****d."
- Greg Rusedski advised Alcaraz to prioritize his long-term health over rushing back to competition.
Carlos Alcaraz is not in action at the moment. He will not be competing at the Madrid Open because of an injury he suffered during the Barcelona Open. The injury forced him to hand the walkover to Tomas Machac in the second round.
In Madrid, Alcaraz attended the Laureus award and also won the Sportsman of the Year award. During his interview with Madrid Open, the seven-time Grand Slam champion recalled playing golf with Andy Murray. The Scott, since hanging up his racket at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has started playing golf to fill the void left by tennis. Murray branded Alcaraz “a very average golfer, unfortunately for him”.
Andy is a b*****d by the way, he likes to mess with you…When I said we were tied 1–1 in golf, after the tweets, he got serious, and the next time we played, he barely even spoke to me, and he won… But I’ll get there and beat him.
Carlos Alcaraz said
Murray, about four months after calling time on his career, joined his old foe Novak Djokovic‘s team. But the partnership did not last for more than six months.
Under the three-time Grand Slam champion, Djokovic reached the semifinals of the Australian Open and the final of the Miami Open but did not win a title. They split before the Geneva Open, where the 24-time Grand Slam champion ended his title drought by defeating Hubert Hurkacz.
Greg Rusedski urges Carlos Alcaraz to look at the long-term picture
Because of his wrist injury, Carlos Alcaraz was urged by Greg Rusedski to not rush his comeback. He cited the example of Juan Martin del Potro who dealt with chronic wrist injury which impacted him during his prime.

He needs to look at the long-term picture and say I’ve got a 10-year career. He can’t afford to have a wrist injury that is serious. Look at Juan Martin del Potro, one of the greats of our game. He never solved his wrist problem and never came back to the player he once was. So take your time, make sure it’s 100 percent ready to go.
Greg Rusedski said on the Off Court with Greg podcast
Alcaraz himself has hinted at skipping the Roland Garros to avoid aggravating his injury. The Spaniard has already lifted this year’s Australian Open by beating Novak Djokovic.
Don’t rush it back. So I don’t think he really overall cares about the ranking points. It’s about health is your wealth. The four Majors are what really define you as a great of the game. He’s already won seven. He’s only three away from 10 already at such a young age, which is incredible. I heard there’s rumors in Monte Carlo in the finals he wasn’t feeling his best with the wrist.
Greg Rusedski added
After becoming the youngest Career Grand Slam champion, the 22-year-old dismantled Arthur Fils in the Qatar Open final, winning his first title in the tournament. But Alcaraz struggled in the Sunshine Double events.
At the Indian Wells Masters, Alcaraz lost to eventual runner-up Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals. Then in Miami, he suffered an early-round exit for the second consecutive time. After knocking out Brazilian rising star Joao Fonseca, Alcaraz was eliminated in the third round by Sebastian Korda.
Then at the Monte-Carlo Masters, where he played as the defending champion, the Murcia native fell in straight sets in the final against Jannik Sinner. And this saw him lose his No.1 ranking points to the four-time Grand Slam champion. Sinner will continue to increase the rankings gap betwene him and Alcaraz as he has no points to defend in Madrid.
