Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, at Wimbledon, are pitted against each other for the second time in a Grand Slam final. But before the match, Alcaraz was spotted with a bandage on his left thigh during his practice session, sparking speculation of possible injury issues.
This year before Wimbledon, the two young rivals met twice- both on clay. Sinner made his return to tennis following his doping ban at the Italian Open only to reach the final and lose to Alcaraz. Then at the French Open, they met for the first time in a Major final. That final is going to be remembered for a long time, for it was nothing short of a thrilling encounter.
Alcaraz trailed two sets to love but somehow forced a comeback and held his nerves to save three championship points in the fourth set, making one of the best comebacks in Grand Slam events. Following his Ibiza trip, he continued his winning ways as he lifted his fourth grass-court title at the Queen’s Club Championships by beating Jiri Lehecka.
Then at Wimbledon, the Spaniard was on the verge of losing in the first round when he was up against Fabio Fognini. Alcaraz won that match in five sets and dropped three more sets in the next few matches, including in the semifinal against Taylor Fritz.
Sinner so far has dropped two sets- both against Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round. He had slipped in the very first set and ended up injuring his elbow. But Dimitrov handed him a walkover as he damaged his right pectoral muscle while hitting an ace during the third set.
But Sinner continued to produce a dominating performance, as he knocked out Ben Shelton and 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. It’s however uncertain whether Alcaraz too is dealing with some sort of injury.

In the final, Alcaraz has an edge, given that he is playing the tournament as the two-time defending champion. Also in their head-to-head matchups, the five-time Grand Slam champion holds an 8-4 lead and had secured the wins in their last five matches.
Nick Kyrgios claims Jannik Sinner reaching the Wimbledon final is not a good look for tennis
Jannik Sinner has reached his fourth Grand Slam final since it was revealed to the tennis world that he failed the drug test twice in March last year. Since then, he, as well as Iga Swiatek had been at the receiving end of harsh comments from Nick Kyrgios.

Swiatek too failed the drug test last year and was handed a one-month ban. Sinner served his ban this year. Both the players have reached their first-ever Wimbledon final.
Do I think it’s a good look for the sport that Iga Swiatek and Sinner are in the final at Wimbledon after serving a ban? I don’t think it’s a good look for the sport. And I think people could agree.
Nick Kyrgios told the The i Paper
Sinner was given the ban after he defended the Australian Open title. His ban didn’t stop him from playing Grand Slam events, which is why many believe his case was conveniently handled by the anti-doping agencies.
Sinner, he served a ban, which do I agree with? No. But he came back, and he’s been playing some excellent tennis. He didn’t look like he missed a beat, and he looked like he improved during that period of time, which is still incredible, regardless of why he was banned.
Nick Kyrgios added
Swiatek lifted the Wimbledon by storming past Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0, ending her trophy drought. It was her first title since her French Open win last year.
