Carlos Alcaraz has scheduled a showdown clash with arch-rival Jannik Sinner at the ATP Finals. Scheduled to be held on November 16, Alcaraz will face Sinner for the 16th time in his career, as well as the sixth time this season.
The Spaniard is expecting nothing but a tough match as he will be facing two opponents: Sinner, as well as the Pala Alpitour spectators. Alcaraz is well aware of how the Italian crowd would react as he met the home favorite in the Rome final this year.
Almost like the Davis Cup. I think the whole stadium is gonna be supporting him. I’m gonna be prepared for that. I just hope at least 3 or 4 people in the crowd will cheer for me. I have my friends. Hopefully, I’m gonna hear them more than the crowd. But it’s gonna be a fun and interesting atmosphere to feel at least once.
Carlos Alcaraz said during the on-court interview
Sinner trails 5-10 in the head-to-head matchups and won just one match in their last eight meetings (at Wimbledon). Before scheduling the clash, Alcaraz knocked out Felix Auger-Aliassime, while Sinner went past Alex de Minaur.
En route to the win, the four-time Grand Slam champion did not lose a set, while Alcaraz dropped the first set against last year’s runner-up, Taylor Fritz. Because both of them are undefeated, the winner will pocket a record $5,071,000 in prize money. If Sinner wins the final, he will still be ending the season as the year-end No.2 player.
While the six-time Grand Slam champion will be playing his first final in the season-ending championship, Sinner has become the youngest player since Lleyton Hewitt (2004) to reach three consecutive finals in the tournament. In 2023, he failed to beat Novak Djokovic, while last year, he breezed past Fritz. Alcaraz was a semifinalist in 2023.
The last defeat that Sinner suffered was at the 2023 ATP Finals, and he is now on a 30-match winning streak on indoor hardcourts. The 24-year-old is chasing his sixth title of he season and is on a 14-match winning streak thanks to his win at the Vienna Open and the Paris Masters.
Lorenzo Musetti analyzes Carlos Alcaraz’s performance at the ATP Finals
Before booking a spot in the semifinals of the ongoing event, Carlos Alcaraz secured his third round-robin win against Lorenzo Musetti, eliminating the Italian. Musetti made his debut in the event as a replacement for Novak Djokovic, who pulled out on the eve of the event.

Yeah, I think he was really focused. I knew that he wanted to win badly tonight. He served really well. I think he didn’t have so many ups and downs with the serve. That gave me a lot of pressure on the rallies. I saw him playing this surface with a lot of ups and downs. Now the performance of tonight was really consistent in every side of the game. Starting even from the return, he’s starting to be really aggressive with the return.
Lorenzo Musetti said at the press conference
Alcaraz holds a 7-1 head-to-head record over Musetti. The six-time Grand Slam champion has so far taken home eight trophies from 10 finals, while Musetti played three finals this season, losing all (Monte Carlo Masters, Ningbo Open, and the Hellenic Championship). The 23-year-old, in fact, has lost six consecutive finals since winning his career’s second title at the 2022 Tennis Napoli Cup.
Alcaraz will be facing Jannik Sinner for the second time in an indoor hardcourt. It was on the indoor court that they clashed with each other for the first time, at the 2021 Paris Masters. Alcaraz clinched the win as well as seven of their nine hardcourt meetings.
