While Jannik Sinner is on a 31-match winning streak on indoor hardcourt, Carlos Alcaraz has just one title to his name on the surface. He lifted the Rotterdam Open earlier this year against Alex de Minaur in the final.
Before arriving in Paris, Alcaraz suffered a three-set defeat at the hands of Britain’s Cameron Norrie at the Paris Masters. At the press conference after his defeat, Alcaraz was asked whether he had doubts about his performance before entering the court to face his arch-rival.
Yeah, first of all, I never doubt about myself. I never doubt about my level on indoor court. I didn’t doubt about playing and fighting toe to toe with Jannik on indoor court. I thought at the beginning of the match, I thought right after just this match, that I can beat him, that I can compete against him here. I didn’t surprise at all that I was really close. It was just about the tennis. I’m just really happy with the performance that I did today.
Alcaraz is also convinced that he will only improve his indoor hardcourt performance as time progresses. The win helped Sinner narrow the head-to-head gaps, as he now holds a 6-10 record.
Sinner has ended his season with six titles from 10 finals, while Alcaraz will be playing in one more event. It’s the Davis Cup Finals, where Spain will be bidding for their first title since 2019. They will square off against the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals. Last year, Spain suffered defeat in the last eight at the hands of eventual runners-up Netherlands, who, in the final, lost to Italy.
Two-time defending champion Italy will not be without its star player Sinner this time. The Davis Cup Finals start on November 18 in Bologna.
Jannik Sinner is very emotional after ATP Finals win
This is the second time in his career that Jannik Sinner has won a singles title in front of his home crowd. Last year, he defeated Taylor Fritz at the ATP Finals.

Then he got the chance to double the tally at the Italian Open but fell in straight sets against Carlos Alcaraz. Following his win over the six-time Grand Slam champion, Sinner made his feelings known on how much the title meant to him.
Yeah, amazing feelings, finishing the season here in Turin in front of the home crowd. It’s the last match of the season. It’s an amazing feeling. Very emotional seeing my team here, the whole box. I’m really, really happy.
Sinner’s match-winning streak on indoor hardcourts is the sixth longest on the men’s tour in the Open Era. The five players who stand before him on the list are: John McEnroe, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Ivan Lendl. He is also the ninth man to win the ATP Finals in consecutive years.
The ATP Finals was Sinner’s 11th Big Title of his career and his fourth one this season, following the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the Paris Masters. He will end the season as a No.2 player, while Alcaraz took away the year-end No.1 trophy. Sinner also joined McEnroe and Boris Becker, becoming the third man in the Open Era to win multiple titles on home soil.
Sinner holds a 10-0 win-loss record at the ATP Finals since 2024, thanks to his unbeaten run, which also means he received $5,071,000 prize money- the largest in the history of the tournament. The 24-year-old has now become the winner of 24 titles from 33 finals, losing nine of those matches. The defeats that he suffered this season were only to Alcaraz.
