Carlos Alcaraz Shares Honest Thoughts on Comparisons of his Rivalry With Jannik Sinner to Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal

Rivalries come and go, but some remain in the hearts of sports fans from generation to generation. The rivalry between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal was one of them, in which the tennis fanbase was split into two. Now, similar things are said about the rivalry between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz, the current World No.1, believes that it is an honor to be compared to his tennis ancestors. The duo of him and Sinner have won the last eight Grand Slam titles. Alcaraz said in an interview with Tennis Korea:
This comparison is a true honor for me as a player. I think it means a lot that tennis fans feel the same way when they watch our matches. Rivalries in sports are a powerful element that fuels fan interest, and I was also very inspired by the rivalry between Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer during my childhood. Jannik and I have already faced each other on many big stages and played some intense matches. We’ve met in several Grand Slam finals, and I think we make each other stronger. With a long career ahead of us, I hope we can continue this positive rivalry that will help us grow together.
This is a similar kind of dominance that Federer and Nadal showed in their prime years. The duo of Fedal won 18 of the 20 Grand Slam titles between 2006 and 2010. The only exceptions were the 2008 Australian Open and the 2009 US Open.
Federer and Nadal met each other 40 times on tour, with the Spaniard having a comfortable lead of 24-16. However, the Swiss man ended their rivalry in a sweet manner, winning six of their last seven meetings.
Carlos Alcaraz admits Jannik Sinner has no weaknesses
World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz admits that his great rival Jannik Sinner doesn’t have any weaknesses on the court. The Italian recently concluded the season by winning the ATP Finals at the Spaniard’s cost. Alcaraz said:
Jannik and I have been on the tour since we were young and we know each other’s game perfectly. There’s almost nothing to hide on the court. Jannik is a player with virtually no weaknesses. He’s powerful on offense and his defense is incredibly quick and consistent. He completely dominated the 2015 season, winning two Grand Slams, the ATP Finals, and staying in contention for the world number one ranking until the very end.

From 2024 onwards, Alcaraz has had Sinner’s number on most occasions. The Spaniard won all three of their encounters in 2024, and also won four of their six meetings this year.
Out of these six meetings, they have played the last 3 Grand Slam finals. Moreover, the played the finals of the ATP Finals to ensure that they are the benchmark of tennis today.
Biggest winning streaks of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in 2025
Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner were far ahead of the rest of the ATP Tour in 2025. They shared all four Grand Slam titles and collected 14 trophies between them. Their ranking positions reflected this dominance, with Alcaraz at No. 1 and Sinner at No. 2.

Both players produced the longest winning streaks of the season. Sinner had two separate runs of 12 victories, one starting at the Australian Open and another beginning at Wimbledon. He also closed the year with a 15-match streak, winning titles in Vienna, Paris, and the ATP Finals.
Alcaraz also put together several strong stretches. He built a 14-match run from Cincinnati through the US Open and the Laver Cup. His most impressive spell came earlier in the year, when he collected 24 straight wins across Rome, Roland Garros, Queen’s, and Wimbledon.
Their streaks highlighted how they controlled every part of the season. Each lifted multiple major titles, won big finals against the other, and consistently delivered deep runs. The year ended with both firmly established as the leading forces in men’s tennis.
