Carlos Alcaraz is 4220 points behind Jannik Sinner in the rankings race even though he defeated the Italian in their three ATP encounters this season. Ahead of his first match of the Paris Masters, Alcaraz lauded Sinner and admitted that he hasn’t played consistently this season.
Before the Paris Masters, Alcaraz participated in the Six Kings Slam exhibition event in Riyadh, where he reached the final but lost to Sinner. It was Alcaraz’s first defeat to Sinner this season, though it was in an unofficial event.
Alcaraz leads 6-4 against Sinner in their head-to-head meetings. Their last ATP Tour meeting was in the China Open final, where the Spaniard played a pair of tie-breaks to eke out a win in three sets.
The 23-year-old has won just one match in his three appearances at the Paris Masters and will kick-start his campaign against either Ben Shelton or Corentin Moutet. If he wins, it will be his fourth ATP Masters 1000 title of 2024.
Carlos Alcaraz wants to have a good run at the Paris Masters
At Bercy, Carlos Alcaraz is 4-3, and he also failed to go past the quarterfinals. He is set to lock horns with the winner of the match between Nicolas Jarry and Lorenzo Sonego. Alcaraz said tiredness might have been the season behind his winless run at the Paris Masters, but he hopes to have a good tournament.
Alcaraz has won four ATP titles, the second most in men’s tennis this season after Jannik Sinner‘s seven trophies.
Apart from his two Grand Slam titles, Alcaraz won the silver medal after defeat to Novak Djokovic in the Paris Olympics. Sinner has already clinched the Year-End No. 1. Alcaraz’s goal, on the other hand, is to finish second in the rankings, as he leads Alexander Zverev by 395 points.
