Carlos Alcaraz has the chance to take revenge on Jannik Sinner as they have scheduled the Cincinnati Masters’ final clash with each other, which will also be a rematch of this year’s final matches in Rome, Paris, and London. In London, Alcaraz was denied his third consecutive Wimbledon crown by Sinner, who scripted history by becoming the first Italian player ever to lift the title.

It was Sinner’s first victory after five consecutive defeats. Prior to Wimbledon, Alcaraz defeated the four-time Grand Slam champion in straight sets in the Italian Open final, while in the French Open final, the World No.1 squandered three championship points en route to the defeat.

I’m really looking forward to playing against him once again. We raise our level to the top and we bring a really beautiful tennis to the match. I’m ready to take the challenge. I’m ready to see the things that I did wrong in the last match and try to be better on that side on Monday.

Carlos Alcaraz said during his post-match interview after his semifinal win

In the semifinal, the Spaniard went past a struggling Alexander Zverev, who took a medical timeout in the second set and eventually lost the match. With this win, the Murcia native has improved his head-to-head record over the German ace to 6-6.

But now, another tough challenge awaits him. In terms of head-to-head record, Alcaraz has the lead of 8-5. Before reaching his second consecutive Cincinnati Masters final, Sinner, in straight sets, knocked out qualifier Terence Atmane, who also gifted him a Pokemon card on his 24th birthday.

Sinner is bidding to defend his title. Last year, he denied Frances Tiafoe the title in front of his home crowd. But last year, Alcaraz’s run was ended by Gael Monfils in his opening round. In 2023, he was the finalist (lost the match to Novak Djokovic). Sinner has reached his fifth final of the season and is bidding to win his third title, after his victories at the Australian Open (beat Zverev) and Wimbledon.

Carlos Alcaraz had kind words for Alexander Zverev after beating him in the Cincinnati Masters semifinal

Alexander Zverev will continue his hunt for the second title of this season at the US Open. Before meeting Carlos Alcaraz, he took physio’s help during his quarterfinal match against Ben Shelton and played the second seed without being 100 percent fit. Alcaraz was happy to advance to the final, but he was “feeling bad for Sascha” and wished him a speedy recovery.

It’s never easy playing against someone that you know isn’t feeling 100%. It’s even tougher coming from Sascha, such a great person off the court, we have a really good relationship. It was difficult. I think we started the match playing good tennis, but then all of a sudden he started to feel bad and and my focus was thinking about how he was feeling instead focusing on myself and playing good tennis. It was a really difficult situation for me, and I just wish him all the best.

Alcaraz has also reached his seventh consecutive final. This streak started from the Monte Carlo Masters, following which, he played the Barcelona Open, Italian Open, French Open, Queen’s Club Championships, and Wimbledon finals (lost only in Barcelona and Wimbledon).

The five-time Grand Slam champion is chasing his eighth Masters 1000 title, and also his third of the season in this category. He has not yet lifted a title in the two Masters 1000 tournaments that are held before the US Open. The Cincinnati Masters is his first tournament on the North American hard-court swing, given that he had pulled out of the Canadian Open to extend his break.
