Carlos Alcaraz will be locking horns with Jannik Sinner for the second time on grass. Alcaraz and Sinner knocked out Taylor Fritz and Novak Djokovic, respectively, to set up a blockbuster final clash on Sunday (July 13) at Wimbledon.

In their second ever encounter, Alcaraz played Sinner in the fourth round of 2022 Wimbledon and ended up losing that match in four sets. At the press conference after his semifinal win, Alcaraz recalled that match and shared what he thinks about Sinner’s game on grass.

We are completely different players on grass and on all surfaces. I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be different. I see Jannik playing great tennis on grass. The movement on grass is the hardest thing to get. And the most important thing. At least for me. The movement Jannik has on grass is unbelievable. He’s sliding like he’s playing on clay from both legs. It’s just unbelievable.

Apart from his sixth Grand Slam title, the 22-year-old is also aiming to win his sixth title of the season after lifting titles in Rotterdam, Monte Carlo, Rome, and Paris. Before Wimbledon, Alcaraz lifted his career’s fourth grass-court title at the Queen’s Club Championships. The World No.1 has not yet won a trophy since defending his Australian Open title.

Both the young rivals have won seven of the last eight Grand Slam titles, with the last player other than them to win a Major being Djokovic, who lifted his 24th Major at the 2023 US Open. This is the third time this season Djokovic has crashed out of Grand Slam events in the semifinals.

Jannik Sinner is not affected by his French Open defeat to Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are pitted against each other for the second time in a Grand Slam event. Last month in the French Open final, Alcaraz trailed by two sets to love but was successful in forcing a comeback, and had even saved three championship points in the fourth set, before defending his title.

Alcaraz holds an 8-4 head-to-head lead over the three-time Grand Slam champion. Before the French Open, the Spaniard had breezed past Sinner in straight sets in the Italian Open final. Sinner has made it clear that he has moved on from the heartbreaking defeat in Paris and won’t let it affect him in any way in the upcoming final.

If the Roland Garros match weighed heavily on my mind, I wouldn’t be in a position to play another final. I am delighted to share the court once again with Carlos. It is going to be tough, I know, but I am very excited. I always strive to put myself in these kinds of situations, which I truly love.

Alcaraz is chasing history at Wimbledon. A win on Sunday will make him the second player in the Open Era after Bjorn Borg to complete the Channel Slam for consecutive seasons. He will also become the fifth man in the Open Era to capture three Wimbledon trophies after Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic.

While Alcaraz will be playing his third consecutive Wimbledon final, Sinner has secured a berth in the summit clash here for the first time in his career. In the previous two seasons, the five-time Grand Slam champion clinched the wins against Djokovic, who for the first time since 2018, has failed to advance to the Wimbledon final.

Sinner has now played against Nole for the third time at Wimbledon and clinched the win for the first time to improve his head-to-head record to 6-4. It was also his fifth consecutive victory over the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
