Carlos Alcaraz has made his comeback to tennis after almost a month. In the ongoing Cincinnati Masters, he survived a scare against Damir Dzumhur in his opening round.
Later, after his practice session before his third-round match against Hamad Medjedovic, a fan gave him a Luchador wrestling mask while he was signing autographs. Without a second thought, Alcaraz tried the mask while the fans laughed and cheered for him.

Alcaraz has never lifted the Cincinnati Masters, though he reached the final in 2023, losing the match to 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. Last year, however, Gael Monfils knocked him out in the opening round.
Before Cincinnati, the five-time Grand Slam champion skipped the Canadian Open. He is chasing his sixth title of the season after lifting titles in Rotterdam, Monte Carlo, Rome, Paris, and at the Queen’s Club Championships. Apart from these, he also played the finals of the Barcelona Open (lost to Holger Rune) and the Wimbledon Championships, losing to Jannik Sinner.
Carlos Alcaraz on his rivalry with Jannik Sinner
Carlos Alcaraz leads at present in his rivalry with Jannik Sinner, as he holds an 8-5 head-to-head record. But it’s the Italian ace who secured the win in their last encounter – in the Wimbledon final. At a press conference in Cincinnati, the Spaniard said he is convinced this rivalry won’t end soon.

I’m just really happy to be building such a great rivalry against Jannik. Jannik and I, I think we’ve done great things in tennis already in such a short period. I just let the people talk about our rivalry or the things that we have done for the history books in tennis.
Sinner is bidding to defend a Masters 1000 title for the first time. Last year in the Cincinnati final, he beat Frances Tiafoe. This year, he kicked-started his campaign against Daniel Elahi Galan, against whom he registered his fastest win of the season (59 minutes). But he was on the verge of dropping a set against Gabriel Diallo, but he eventually ended the match in straight sets.
I’m not thinking about the history we’re making in tennis. I think we have such a long career ahead to see how far we can go and if we already made or [did not make] history in tennis. It’s just for the people to discuss.
Carlos Alcaraz added
The four-time Grand Slam champion is chasing his first Masters 1000 title since his victory at the 2024 Shanghai Masters, which he clinched by beating Novak Djokovic. So far this season, he has played four finals and captured two Major titles, at the Australian Open by beating Alexander Zverev and Alcaraz at SW19.
Sinner could schedule his fourth clash with Alcaraz this season if both of them progress to the final. The World No.1 has so far won four Masters 1000, while Alcaraz is the winner of seven titles in this category, two of which he lifted this year (in Monte Carlo and Rome).
Carlos Alcaraz wants to reclaim No.1 from Jannik Sinner
Sinner has 10,930 points on the rankings table. He has a lot of points to defend on the North American hard-court season, given that last year, he lifted the Cincinnati Masters as well as the US Open (beating Taylor Fritz).

Alcaraz doesn’t have many points to defend as he lost in his opening round in Cincinnati and in the second round of the US Open last year. Also at the Shanghai Masters and at the ATP Finals, he suffered early exits. In short, Alcaraz has a chance to reclaim his No.1 spot from Sinner.
