- He has a tradition of getting a tattoo for each Grand Slam title he wins.
- Alcaraz struggled physically during his recent loss at the Indian Wells Open, prompting concerns about his fitness.
Carlos Alcaraz has arrived in Florida for the Miami Open with a new tattoo. The 22-year-old is gearing up to claim his first ATP Masters 1000 title of the season and his third title following his memorable Australian Open triumph, which has now been etched into his skin and the ATP 500 title in Qatar.
Alcaraz gave his all on the court at the Australian Open, defeating Novak Djokovic in the final. The title made him the youngest man to complete a career Grand Slam in the Open Era. He also became the youngest man to reach seven Slams, just a few years after becoming the youngest man (19 years and 130 days) to reach the World No. 1 ranking.
The Spaniard has made it a ritual to always etch a tattoo into his body for every Grand Slam title he wins. He began it when he claimed his first major at the 2021 US Open, inking on the back of his left arm. After winning his first Wimbledon Championship, he tattooed a strawberry with the date on his right ankle.
Following his first Roland Garros title, he featured the Eiffel Tower with the date written, 06-09-2024. Also, he etched the statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge on the back of his left arm to commemorate his second US Open title last year. Even so, there is still more space for more tattoos on Alcaraz’s body.
Among his revealed personal goals, winning the Davis Cup for Spain, he will get a tattoo in remembrance of it. However, nearly two months after winning the Australian Open in Melbourne, he finally unveiled a kangaroo tattoo, which is located at the lower front part of his left leg, which makes it barely visible as he wears socks when playing.

He made this known in an Instagram story, which showed him lying on a tattoo table, while his personal tattoo artist worked on the design on his leg. He will be looking forward to adding another one this season, perhaps if he does win his third consecutive French Open at Roland Garros.
Also, he may decide to add another tattoo should he win the Wimbledon Championship for the third time this year. He would have won the title for the third consecutive year last July, but he lost to his arch-rival Jannik Sinner in four sets at the All England Club. It was a revenge win for Sinner, who had just lost to Alcaraz in the final of the French Open.
Toni Nadal says Carlos Alcaraz looked tired during his Indian Wells Open loss
Carlos Alcaraz was the favorite to win the Indian Wells Open, which concluded on Sunday (March 15). He was in red-hot form entering the tournament and had won four matches before reaching the semi-finals. He faced Daniil Medvedev in the last four and lost to the Russian star in straight sets.

After the match, Alcaraz noted that he wasn’t at his best level on the court because he struggled physically. During a conversation on Onda Cero’s Radioestadio Noche, Rafael Nadal’s uncle Toni Nadal pointed out that Alcaraz looked a bit tired during his match against Medvedev. He added that he has to skip some tournaments and get some rest, even though he’s fighting to stay at World No.1:
I’ve seen him looking a bit tired. In some rallies, he seemed to be running on fumes and with less energy than usual, and I thought, ‘Maybe he’s going to stop playing in some tournaments’. But he’s also fighting for the number one spot. I don’t know; Samu López and he will decide.
Alcaraz’s lead over Jannik Sinner at the top of the table has just been reduced to a mere 2,000 points following the Italian star’s Indian Wells triumph. However, Alcaraz has an opportunity to claim more points at the Miami Open, having lost early last year before a very hectic clay-court schedule.
