Carlos Alcaraz recalled his 2023 Cincinnati Open final loss to Novak Djokovic ahead of the tournament this year. It was considered one of the better matches of last year, as both the players gave it their all for the title.
The Cincinnati Open is an important tournament before the US Open as players take part in the event to get as much momentum as possible before the season’s final Grand Slam. Djokovic won the title in Ohio last year and then won the US Open as well.
Last year, Alcaraz did not recover from the runner-up finish at the Cincinnati Open. He lost a few easy matches and did not do anything noteworthy for the rest of the season. However, this year, he heads into the tournament in good form and is hoping to go one step better than last year.
Of course a little bit of a shame about that final. But it was a very useful moment in my career. Just to learn from that defeat and try to be better after that. Today is a new tournament, and I want to think about this week and try to prepare myself as best I can.Carlos Alcaraz told press in Cincinnati
Djokovic is not going to defend his title this year. And given the form Alcaraz is in, he is the strong favorite to go all the way and get his hands on the trophy.
Carlos Alcaraz reveals a year-end goal to replace Jannik Sinner as World No.1
Spanish ace Carlos Alcaraz has been one of the best players this year. With two Grand Slam titles to his name, only a couple more goals are left for him to achieve this season. While one would surely be winning the US Open title, Alcaraz revealed that he has another goal.
The Spaniard revealed that being the World No. 1 is always a target for him, especially with the race getting all the more interesting. Currently, he is World No. 3 and is behind Jannik Sinner with 7950 points. Sinner has 8770 points followed by Novak Djokovic, who has 8460 points.
At the end of the year, if you end the race No 1, in the rankings [it is] quite similar, so you’re going to end the No 1. So I’m really focused on that.Carlos Alcaraz tols press in Cincinnati
The 21-year-old is currently second in the ATP Race to Turin, only 450 points behind Sinner’s 6410.
