Carlos Alcaraz certainly meant business from the get go today in his match against Novak Djokovic. He was not joking around with the Djoker as he saved himself from dropping in the rankings by completely dominating the great Serb in a Wimbledon final for the second year in a row.

Alcaraz had 2000 ranking points to defend this year, coming into the tournament as the defending champion. Had he lost this match, he would’ve lost 500 points that would’ve brought him closer than he would’ve liked to the no.4 spot which is held by Alexander Zverev

However, by winning the tournament, Alcaraz is much closer to the no.2 spot than he was a few weeks ago. He now trails Djokovic by 330 points and just one title at an ATP 500 level event will propel him to the penultimate spot, just below his biggest rival Jannik Sinner.

The top five remain unchanged after the grass court Slam and there have been very few changes in the top ten win no new entries into the list. Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev are the five best players at the moment, in that order.

Australian no.1 Alex De Minaur has had a breakthrough win this year after defeating Novak Djokovic at home in Australia in the ATP Cup. He has not looked back since then, breaking into the top ten just last month.

After a stellar run at Wimbledon, he has overtaken Andrey Rublev to reach a career high ranking of world no. 6. Had his run not ended abruptly because of a hip injury sustained during his fourth round match against Arthur Fils, he would’ve been on Medvedev’s tail, inching closer to another career milestone of top 5.

Hubert Hurkacz‘s great runs on grass have brought him back to his career high ranking of world no.7 after Andrey Rublev’s first round loss had him drop by a couple of spots. Other than these, the tournament yielded no major changes in the rankings of top players and the status quo remains intact.
