Jannik Sinner is banned for three months due to his doping case and is not participating in the ongoing Monte Carlo Masters. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) withdrew their appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and suspended the Italian till May 4. He will make his comeback at the Italian Open as his home tournament starts on May 7.

Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, is all set to make his second appearance in The Principality. He will be hoping to make a deep run this time as so far in the season, he struggled to play consistent tennis. Ahead of kick-starting his campaign, the Spaniard revealed whether he is jealous of seeing Sinner not playing and whether he likes to have a month off.

I would really like to have a month without doing anything, really. We play 11 months without stopping, at most we stop three days in a row, a week at most. So playing for 11 months at a high intensity, with a significant physical and mental commitment, having only three or four days off in a row is not right. I think that also for the fans, for tennis in general, rest is important, so we can get back on the court and play better.

Alcaraz has often criticized the hectic 11-month calendar. He also cited the busy calendar as the reason behind players falling prey to different kinds of injuries. Several people from the tennis community, however, urged him to rest during the off-season instead of participating in the exhibition events.

Carlos Alcaraz doesn’t agree with Alexander Zverev about what happened in the last two months

After the Australian Open, both Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev had disappointing campaigns in the next few tournaments they played. Although Alcaraz did win his first indoor hard-court title at the Rotterdam Open, he failed to defend his Indian Wells crown before David Goffin shocked him in his Miami Open opener.

Zverev, on the other hand, failed to win more than two matches on the Golden Swing. In the two Sunshine Double tournaments, the German was defeated in his first match at Indian Wells and in the fourth round in Miami.

Zverev, ahead of his Monte Carlo Masters opener against Matteo Berrettini, said the last two months were “weird” as his and Alcaraz’ early exits and in the absence of Sinner, different players were crowned as champions. Alcaraz, however, is of a different opinion.

As I said before, the draw in every tournament is really open. Many players are playing great tennis and deserve to be there. I don’t feel that it’s a strange situation or that the last few months have been unusual. I just see tennis growing and players who are capable of doing great things.

Jack Draper, after knocking out Alcaraz in the semifinals, claimed his career’s best title in the California desert. In the Miami Open final, Jakub Mensik denied Novak Djokovic his 100th title to lift his career’s first ATP trophy.

Carlos Alcaraz fails to dethrone Jannik Sinner from No.1 spot

Carlos Alcaraz failed to capitalize on Jannik Sinner’s three-month absence. He continues to sit on the third position with 6,730 points in the ATP live rankings, while second-placed Alexander Zverev has 7,595 points.

World No.1 Sinner lost 400 points by not participating in the Monte Carlo Masters (he had reached the semifinals last year). With 9,930 points, the 23-year-old will continue to sit on top even if Alcaraz or Zverev are successful in lifting the title. Sinner’s comeback will only make things tough for the World No.2 and World No.3 to dethrone him from the top.
