Carlos Alcaraz has revealed how he will anticipate his potential match against either Jannik Sinner or Novak Djokovic in the Roland Garros Final. The Spaniard has shared key matches to look back on while assessing both of these matchups.

Alcaraz says that if it’s Sinner, he will look at the recently concluded Italian Open final, which the Spaniard won in straight sets. If it’s Djokovic, he will reflect on his heartbreaking loss at the Paris Olympics Gold Medal match last year. Alcaraz said in his Roland Garros press conference:

Against either of them, I expect a very tough final, with good and bad moments, where we’ll have to know how to deal with all kinds of situations. If Jannik wins, the focus could be on the Rome final, but I believe the beauty of tennis is that one week can be one way and another week totally different.

Alcaraz has had the better of Sinner in the last four meetings, including last year’s Roland Garros semifinal. The Spaniard came from two sets to one down to defeat the Serbian in five sets en route to his first Roland Garros title. He added:

If it’s against Djokovic, we’ll try to give our best. Perhaps the focus could be on the Paris final (Olympic Games), and in a year, many things can change, so we’ll be prepared for whoever the opponent is on Sunday, give our best, and above all, not be afraid, go for it.

However, Djokovic has had the better of the Spaniard as of late, including this year’s Australian Open quarterfinal. The Serb, despite being injured, knocked out the young Spaniard in four sets.

Carlos Alcaraz shows vulnerability in his Roland Garros semifinal

World No.2 Carlos Alcaraz advanced to his second straight Roland Garros final after defeating Lorenzo Musetti in Paris. Despite the win, some vulnerabilities in Alcaraz’s game were visible, especially during the close of the first set. Musetti held on during key moments and eventually claimed the set as Alcaraz made a costly error while serving to stay in it.

The match, played under the closed roof on Court Philippe-Chatrier, saw Alcaraz shaken after losing the opening set. In the second, he broke Musetti early but immediately lost his own serve. The set stayed balanced until Alcaraz took control in the tiebreak. Musetti later appeared to suffer a leg injury, which forced him to retire with the score at 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-0, 2-0.

At just 22, Alcaraz has built a reputation for consistent excellence. Any slip in his form draws attention, and his frustration after losing the first set reflected the pressure he carries. Though rare, past defeats—like his loss to Novak Djokovic at the Olympics and a surprising US Open exit—have shown moments where pressure affected his play.

In this semifinal, Musetti’s injury halted a promising challenge and gave Alcaraz the upper hand. As he now prepares for the final, he’ll face a bigger test in his pursuit of a fifth Grand Slam title and a chance to further solidify his status at the top of the sport.

Carlos Alcaraz makes history at Roland Garros

Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz reached his second French Open final after Lorenzo Musetti retired with the score at 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-0, 2-0. With this win, Alcaraz became one of the youngest players to reach five Grand Slam finals, joining legends like Rafael Nadal and three others.

The match began at a high level, with both players showing strong form. Musetti broke Alcaraz’s serve late in the first set to take it 6-4. In the second set, Alcaraz twice led with a break, and eventually took control in the tiebreak to level the match.

As the third set started, Musetti’s movement declined. His serve also dropped in quality, likely due to a thigh injury. Alcaraz dominated the set 6-0, and after going down 2-0 in the fourth, Musetti retired from the match.

At 22 years and 20 days old, Alcaraz is now the fifth-youngest man to reach five Grand Slam finals. Only Mats Wilander, Bjorn Borg, Rafael Nadal, and Boris Becker did it earlier. Alcaraz had already reached and won finals at the US Open in 2022, the French Open in 2024, and Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024.
