The whole tennis world awaits the semi-final of the French Open clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, where the winner advances to the finals of the Grand Slam. While both the players are in good form, they have each faced a small injury scare of their own.
Even Juan Carlos Ferrero, the coach of Alcaraz, understands the expectations heading into the match and spoke about his mentee’s preparations ahead of the all-exciting clash. He said that the meeting would be well-balanced while confident in his plans to beat the newly crowned ATP No.1.
They both missed a few clay court tournaments due to injuries. I think it's 50–50. Hopefully, they will both make a good match so that one pushes the other and both get positive feelings from it, even if one of them won't be very happy tomorrow (Friday). We have a clear strategy, but Jannik also knows how he should play.Juan Carlos Ferrero said on Thursday in Paris
After Novak Djokovic withdrew from the ongoing slam due to a right knee injury, all eyes are on these two youngsters to win the Slam. While Alcaraz hopes to win his first major on clay, Sinner would look to make it two in two this year with a win in Paris.
Jannik Sinner’s reaction upon learning that he overtook Novak Djokovic as World No.1
The race for the World No.1 has been dominated by Jannik Sinner, who fought all the way from the bottom. Despite being stuck in the top 10 for a while, the Italian continued to work on his game and soon got on a great win streak.
After winning continuous titles including the Australian Open this year, he found himself in touching distance to the top of the mountain and reached the peak when Djokovic withdrew from the French Open, meaning that Sinner became World No.1 in tennis.
What can I say? First of all, it’s every player’s dream to become No. 1 in the world. On the other way, seeing Novak retiring here, I think it’s for everyone so I wish him a speedy recovery.Jannik Sinner said in the post-quarterfinal match interview
Tennis fans were impressed with Sinner, who asked about Djokovic first instead of celebrating his new achievement. Now, Sinner will take on Carlos Alcaraz for a spot in the finals and will look to get ahead in their head-to-head win record. Currently, both have two wins a piece in their four matches.
