Friday went bad for the New York Mets considering they are the final games before the playoffs start. The Mets suffered a devastating blow to their spot as the team lost 4-8 against the Milwaukee Brewers at the American Family Field.
The skid started with eight of twelve calls made by the umpire Ramon De Jesus which mostly went against NY throughout the night. The fiasco started when the umpire called a third strike on catcher Francisco Alvarez and manager Carlos Mendoza, in an attempt to protect his player, got ejected from the game.
It was his 2nd ejection during his managerial career with two outs in the fourth inning after Jesse Winker left the game following a hit by a pitch and J.D. Martinez walked. Alvarez protested against the call, while Mendoza started arguing from the dugout.

He got ejected after coming onto the field to argue with umpire De Jesus. While Mendoza acknowledged that such mistakes could be common given the high-tension race, nevertheless, the call cost the team its victory. Both the player and the coach were furious over the results.

"I think I was doing too much. He's just missing a pitch. He's a person too. I really don't have to do that. I'm going to say sorry tomorrow, and let's keep going" pic.twitter.com/qvfHKmXXXp
With the game ending in their loss, and after voicing out their frustration, both Carlos Mendoza and Francisco Alvarez wish to move on and focus on the rest of the games. Alvarez even said he’ll say sorry and not probe into it anymore.
Francisco Alvarez talks about back spasms and injury update
Francisco Lindor returned to the lineup after being in IL for back pain. While his return news is certainly celebratory, Friday night provided quite some grim updates to the team. Not only is the NY Mets‘ spot for the playoffs in danger, but it also almost sent catcher Francisco Alvarez to the IL.
Alvarez injured himself while diving into third base and exited the game with back spasms in the seventh inning. He admitted feeling scared as it was something he had never experienced before.

Currently, the New York Mets are tied with the Atlanta Braves both having 87-71 records. They’ll be competing for the third and final wild-card spot, with the Mets needing three of the final four-game wins to clinch a playoff berth.
