Former NBA star Carmelo Anthony was one of the best scorers the NBA has ever seen. Anthony had one of the deepest scoring bags and was a menace for defenders on the court. Over the course of his career, Anthony won three gold medals as a part of Team USA in the Olympics. He even holds many Olympics records under his name, some of which are still to be broken.
During the semifinals of the Paris Olympics, when Team USA faced off against Serbia, Carmelo Anthony was spotted in attendance, enjoying the game. A video that went viral afterwards shows Anthony passionately shouting from the sidelines as Team USA trailed by 17 points and was on the brink of elimination.
Recently on his podcast, Carmelo Anthony shared his experience of watching the Olympics. During the episode, Anthony mentioned that he could anticipate every move Team USA made on the court.
I also knew what we was trying to do, I seen it ahead of time. I look at the five (lineup), look at the time. Okay, no, KD, go get the ball, Joel go set the screen, flare for Steph, they go set the screen, slip out, they gon' switch, this is what we want. He claimed he knew who was going to shoot, guard the paint, and set the screen, almost feeling like he was part of the team. Anthony even hinted at offering coaching advice during critical moments of the game. However, he was quick to clarify that he wasn’t trying to take any credit for Team USA’s victory but simply wanted to support and be there for the team whenever needed.
Anthony certainly has a great influence over the sport and is widely considered by many as one of the best performers for Team USA in Olympics history. Melo was part of the national team in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016. He won three gold medals and one bronze medal, which came in the year 2004. He still holds the record for the most points scored in one game by any USA star.
Carmelo Anthony compares NBA championship to Olympics gold
Former Knicks legend Carmelo Anthony is widely regarded as one of the best NBA stars who never won a championship ring. Despite playing in the league for 19 seasons, Anthony was unable to secure a title with any of his teams.
In a recent interview with Basket News‘ Donatas Urbonas, Anthony was asked if he would trade his gold medals for an NBA ring. Anthony firmly declined, explaining that a gold medal represents the pride of your country, which is something an NBA championship cannot match.
When we talk about global sport, for me a medal means something different than an NBA championship. They both have their separate meanings, but winning a gold medal, it's the passion, it's the pride that you have, not just for a city or a state, but for a whole nation, for a whole country you're winning for.Carmelo Anthony told Basket News
There is a significant difference between winning an NBA championship ring and earning a gold medal in the Olympics. While Carmelo Anthony’s NBA career was somewhat disappointing, as he remained without a championship ring, his performance in the Olympics was exceptional. Anthony once held the record for the most points scored by any Team USA player in Olympic history, a record that was eventually surpassed by Kevin Durant.
