The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega on Sunday witnessed history, as Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar secured his maiden victory in the top-tier on his 91st career start. He became the second racer to score maiden win this season, as Joe Gibbs Racing’s Ty Gibbs won his first Cup race at Bristol.

It was a wild race that saw a 25-car wreck in the second stage that took out some big names, putting the likes of Chris Buescher and Alex Bowman alongside the No:77 Chevy driver in the fight for the win. In the final stage, the Spire driver drove aggressively, spun out Erik Jones and shoved No:17 Ford multiple times to came out victorious.

Talking about his win after an iconic drift racing style race win celebration, the youngster thanked the crowd and explained he cherishes the interactions with them a lot. He pointed out that the burnout, where he was hanging out of the window was something he always planed and wanted to give something back to his supporters.

I feel like every time I get to see the crowd, but I never really get to hear them. I’ve had this thought up for a while, and I’ve messed it up every which way to be able to do it/ I don’t care if it took me 20 minutes or whatever, I was going to figure out how to do it. I’m out of breath. I’m so thankful.

Carson Hocevar said after the race win.

Further talking about the point, Carson Hocevar admitted that it was his biggest dream to win a race in the top division and admitted that it was the best way he could have secured his maiden title. He gave a shoutout to his grandfather and his late grandmother after the win, while also thanking his boss, Jeff Dickerson.

This is the biggest dream. Thank you, everybody. I couldn’t have done it in any better way. Hopefully my grandpa’s watching. My grandma died last year, so I’m so thankful I can give my grandpa a trophy now. I wish my parents were here. Thanks to Jeff Dickerson (team owner). We rode the ‘Dente today, that’s for sure … I’m just so thankful.

CM: I knew it was coming. I knew you were going to do it. You drove your tail off. We’re all so proud of you, man. Great job.

CH: Thank you. I really appreciate it, Cleetus. I hope you were jumping on the wall, or wherever the hell you were. I hope you were jumping up like I was yesterday. I mean you’re going to win one soon. You’ve got it.

CM: I was screaming. I was screaming. And the burnout? Immaculate, brother. Immaculate.

CH: Dude, I just realized. I literally did this celebration riding on the door at Le Mullets. So that’s where I thought of it. I literally did it. Oh my God.

The comments from the duo shows a strong friendship. If McFarland had won his ARCA race this week instead of the P2, it would have been a much sweeter moment. It would be interesting to see how the rest of the 2026 season is going to playout for the Chevy driver, who now has momentum on his side.
