World No. 7 Stefanos Tsitsipas and World No.6 Casper Ruud are showing how dominating they can be on clay courts. While the Greek started his campaign on the surface by winning his third Monte-Carlo Masters after beating Ruud, the duo met again in the final, but the result was different.

On the Pista Rafa Nadal court on Sunday (April 21), the Norwegian defeated Tsitsipas with a scoreline of 7-5, 6-3 to win the Barcelona Open title. If Ruud dealt with two straight defeats to Tsitsipas in finals, he admitted, he would have been overwhelmed with emotions. As it did not happen, he joked and thanked the Greek for letting him win.

A week ago you won. Today I won. Thank you for letting me win this time. It would’ve been tough to have 2 final losses in a row. To your team, well done this week. It wasn’t easy for any of us. But we were in the final again.
Casper Ruud said

The World No. 6 is wishing to meet Tsitsipas in the upcoming Mutua Madrid Open final as well. He then thanked his team for preparing him for the event.

Hoping we can be in the Madrid finals. Why not? For my own team, we finally got it. Bigger title than before. Thank you so much for this week… to everyone at home watching.

Casper Ruud lifted his first ATP 500 title

He is a three-time Grand Slam runner-up, having reached the French Open final in 2022 and 2023 and the US Open final in 2022. The Norwegian even reached the 2022 ATP Final but lost to World No.1 Novak Djokovic. In last week’s Monte-Carlo Masters, Ruud knocked out Djokovic to play in the summit clash but easily lost to Tsitsipas with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-4.

Prior to this title, Ruud lifted 10 ATP 250 trophies. He also leads the tour with 29 wins, playing three finals, including the win over Tsitsipas. The first final was at the Mexico Open, which he lost to Australia’s Alex de Minaur, then reached the summit clash in two successive tournaments. Both Ruud and Tsitsipas will play in the upcoming Mutua Madrid Open.
