Casper Ruud has been one of the most exciting players on Tour this season. The Norwegian has been on good form, winning one title and finishing as a runner-up in another.
However, ahead of the Roland Garros, the 25-year-old picks Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Novak Djokovic as favorites to win the title.
This is surprising as Alcaraz, Sinner, and Djokovic have yet to win any clay titles this season, and Ruud finished as runners-up at the Roland Garros last year. The Norwegian looks in better shape to claim his maiden Grand Slam at the French Open, knowing he has been runners-up twice in the tournament. This season, he has finished as a runner-up on three occasions.
However, he won the Barcelona Open just two weeks after losing the Monte Carlo Masters to Stefanos Tsitsipas. He also beat Djokovic in the semifinals to earn his biggest career win of the season. Nevertheless, since Barcelona, the 25-year-old game has suddenly depleted.
He was among the favorites to reach the last four in Madrid, but he exited in the round of 16. Hoping for a turnaround in Rome, he exited in the second round.
It is considerable that he places himself low due to his recent form. However, Alcaraz and Sinner are still injured and both missed the Italian Open. On the other hand, Djokovic’s shocking third-round exit in Rome has seen him earn a last-minute wildcard in the Geneva Open, as he hopes to pick form.
Obviously you have players coming into the tournament with confidence, which is important when you're playing tennis. Zverev maybe the one with the most confidence since he won in Rome. Yes, it's a big chance, but you have other players as well who will be a very big threat.Casper Ruud said
Alcaraz and Sinner, if healthy, will be big threats, and also Novak; he's still in my eyes up there as one of the top favorites, even if this year hasn't gone, maybe the way he wanted so far. He's still the one who won the most in the Slams.Casper Ruud further added
Meanwhile, Ruud has been focusing on training hard ahead of Roland Garros. The World No. 7 is willing to rekindle his clay form and win more titles.
Casper Ruud hoping to rekindle clay form at Geneva Open
Casper Ruud will be competing at the Geneva Open as a necessary preparation for the French Open, which starts on May 26, 2024. The 25-year-old is a two-time Geneva champion and will open his campaign tomorrow.
He reached the Los Cabos, Mexico, and Monte Carlo finals before eventually winning his maiden Barcelona Open. However, after a shocking second-round loss, he is hoping to get the needed preparation to get past his 2023 French Open runner-up finish.
