After LeBron James left the Los Angeles Lakers to become an unrestricted free agent, many wondered what would happen to his son, Bronny James.

Before ‘the King’ left his former team, he ensured that his son’s future was secured. The Lakers guaranteed the USC alum his $2.3 million for the 2026-27 season.

That meant he was assured a roster spot on the team, even though many felt his father’s departure would affect him. It is possible that James negotiated this as part of his decision to leave the Lakers.

Now, as the four-time champion continues to search for the next team to sign, it seems his son might tag along, eventually. The Golden State Warriors, the Miami Heat, the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Philadelphia 76ers are all in the race to sign the league’s all-time leading scorer.

However, it seems the Cavaliers are already ahead of the rest, and that may be why they have kept a roster spot open in case their prodigal son returns.

One conspiracy whisper making the rounds: They want to make sure that they have open roster spots to be able to trade for the Lakers’ Bronny James in the event that they are able to welcome Dad back as a free agent signee.

The $2.3 million might not affect the Cavaliers that much, but if they do not have a roster spot open, it would be difficult to trade for him.

This will bring back the father-and-son duo together on their hometown team. It will not only be marketing genius, but Lebron James can walk away into the sunset knowing that his son still has a job.

Fans roast Cavs for going out of their way to help Bronny James

There is already enough proof that the Lakers and LeBron James’ relationship deteriorated to the point where he felt it was better to leave.

Therefore, fans would obviously question how his son could stay on the same team if the purple and gold organization’s top brass did not want the 41-year-old around anymore.

However, fans felt that this was just another example of the Bronny James fiasco being nothing more than nepotism. They felt that the Cavaliers being ready to help LeBron James do whatever he wants before leaving the game is a disservice to basketball.

They felt that James Jr. should be able to fight for his own job, instead of his father pulling strings for him. Check out examples of such reactions below.

Those who noticed Bronny James gaining more and more minutes last season towards the end of last season must have felt that the Lakers started to trust him more with his dual-threat ability.

They also felt the same when his contract was guaranteed for the upcoming season. However, this new possibility raises a question about whether it was the condition LeBron James placed if the Lakers wanted him to leave.

LeBron James to the Cavaliers looking increasingly more possible.

With all the teams lining up to sign him and his agent, Rich Paul, outlining how each team has its own advantages and disadvantages, fans realize that it was going to take some time before LeBron James makes his decision.

However, the father of three has been spending time in Cleveland for the past few days. After mostly sticking to his house and his workout program, the four-time league MVP was seen out in public.

On the 4th of July, a fan met him on the road and clicked pictures. With this gray beard in full view, it seems the Ohio native is enjoying staying back at home.

This could be a sign that he is inclined to return to his hometown team. Or it could be just another smoke-in-the-mirrors situation where he is throwing something out there, just to mess with people’s minds until he decides where he wants to play next.
