Cesar Azpillecueta believes that Chelsea can definitely finish in the top four this season
Thomas Tuchel took charge of the Chelsea team on Tuesday just 24 hours after the club decided to sack Frank Lampard. His first match ended in a 0-0 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Although it was a disappointing result for the Blues, glimpses of what Thomas Tuchel wants to implement at London showed very clearly.
Cesar Azpillecueta speaks on Thomas Tuchel
Club captain Cesar Azpillecueta played the full match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. In the absence of regular right back Reece James, Azpillecueta is filling up for him. He played as part of a 3 man defence on Wednesday night.
He says that although it will be tough ask Chelsea can definitely finish top four given they start to show some consistency in their performances. They currently sit at 8th position having just 30 points from 20 games up until now.
Cesar Azpillecueta acknowledged that a little more effort from the players is required and that everyone needs to push themselves further more. Moreover the arrival of a new coach and training staff could help boost their performances.
Chelsea will be facing Burnley next in the Premier League after which they will visit close London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. It’s a tough run of games for Thomas Tuchel and his men at the moment.
‘Our job is to do the work on the pitch, to improve ourselves. We always have our responsibility, of course, because we are the ones who go on the pitch and we are not getting results,’ explained our captain. ‘We don’t get away from that and I know we have to improve and I know that we have to step up and give more because we are in the position where we can’t waste any time or any games.
‘We try to get into a better position, to get the confidence back, everybody together and we have to be a strong group. We know that every time we lose a game for Chelsea it means that we are not doing what Chelsea should do.
Everybody in the dressing room, we are all together and we are fully committed. The dressing room is strong and together to fight for everything.’
