Liverpool hosted Midtjylland at Anfield hoping for a win to further cement their place as leaders of Group D. Ajax and Atalanta ended level with two goals each and Liverpool took full advantage. Match Report:

That question wasn’t answered in the first half as Liverpool started the match slow and were pushed back by Midtjylland. Midtjylland started dominating proceedings as soon as the match began and Liverpool had to bide time. A common occurrence as observed, Liverpool start their match slowly and then dominate the game. This act is not going to work against opposition of high quality and they need to correct that immediately. Both the teams were goalless at the half-time break. Midtjylland missed a glorious opportunity to take the lead when a lob went agonizingly wide of the post.

In the second half Liverpool were a different team as they dominated the game more than in the first half. A neat one-two between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Xherdan Shaqiri at the edge of the Midtjylland penalty area saw the former deliver a pass into the box. Diogo Jota finished it off and became the player who scored Liverpool Football Club’s 10000th goal. What a way to write yourself into the history books of your new club!

Once again Jota produced a superb performance and has become a serious contender for a starting position in Liverpool’s famed front three. After the hour mark Salah, Mane and Firmino made their substitute appearances. Firmino missed a sitter to kill the game and Salah had to wait until a penalty in the 90+4 minute to finish the game.

This victory proved decisive as Liverpool topped Group D with Ajax and Atalanta having drawn in a previous encounter. Fabinho suffered a hamstring injury as Liverpool’s centre back injury crisis deepens. With their next two Champions League matches against Atalanta home and awy, Liverpool need all players on board now more than ever!
