However, the Karl-Anthony Towns trade has made Charles Barkley change his opinion about the New York Knicks. The Hall of Famer admitted that the addition of Karl-Anthony Towns has made the Knicks have a team that can contend with the best of the best.
Love the trade for the Knicks. Don’t like it, love it. They had to do something, because they were not going to beat the Celtics. When Paul George went to Philly, they probably were not gonna beat the 76ers. I’m really proud of those guys with the Knicks.
Charles Barkley saidd on Throwbacks podcast
The former league MVP suggested that before this trade, he was not sure if the New York Knicks could beat the Philadelphia 76ers or the Boston Celtics in a playoff series. He felt the losing backup center Isaiah Hartenstein was too big a hit for the Knicks.
Barkley felt they lost the grit needed at the low post position. With Towns as the prime big man, the Knicks will force opposing teams to experiment with defensive assignments, and that could work in their favor.
