- Charles Barkley criticized the Cleveland Cavaliers for their lack of effort in Game 4 against the New York Knicks.
- The Cavs suffered a 130-93 blowout loss, marking a clean sweep in the Eastern Conference Finals.
- Barkley suggested LeBron James could provide the leadership the Cavs are missing.
Former MVP and Hall of Famer Charles Barkley did not hold back on the Cleveland Cavaliers after their performance on Monday night. The Cavs were completely overpowered by the New York Knicks in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Cavs were caught lacking in their body language from the opening tip-off in Game 4 and found themselves down by 19 points at halftime. The lead only grew from there as they suffered a 130-93 blowout loss at the Rocket Arena.
Despite being a must-win game, the Cavs had been outscored by 23 in fastbreak points by halftime. Barkley believed that the team “quit” and lacked effort from the start.
Kids at home, if you want to see what the word ‘quit’ means: to give up. The verb of that is Cavaliers, they were down 29. It’s that question you asked Shaq and me and Kenny (Smith); players ain’t saying they’re gonna quit. But you know what shows: their actions. I believe they were gonna get their a** whooping. That’s what’s gonna happen.

The Cavs’ misery in this series may have come to an end as they have been clean-swept by the Knicks. However, Charles Barkley, who is well known for his trolling and not mincing his words, had some harsh criticism for the Cavs. The former NBA star picked the Cavs to make it out of the East this year.
Earlier in the series, Barkley called the Cavs’ performance in Game 1 a “choke job” after they fumbled a 22-point lead in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, the Knicks continue to make more history as they win, extending their winning streak to 11 games. It was their sixth consecutive win on the road.
Fans react to Charles Barkley ripping the Cavs for “quitting” in Game 4
The Knicks are the most in-form team in the playoffs at the moment. It feels like a lifetime ago when they found themselves 2-1 down against the Atlanta Hawks in the first round. Since then, they have been the best team in the league. Meanwhile, the Cavs never seemed to recover after their meltdown in Game 1 of the series.
Charles Barkley’s statements accusing the Cavs of quitting were quick to go viral, and fans were all over it across social media.

Yes @cavs just displayed the real definition of quitting. Unacceptable behavior!#cavs #ecf #quit

They didn't quit. They were beaten into submission by the Knicks

I literally laughed out loud at home watching this. This is why this show can never go away.

Cavs don't even deserve to go to Cancun. They can go to Galviston.

… Hilarious! That is obvious. The Cavs weren't even trying and Kenny's response was " or is it that the Knicks are that good?" …GTFOH

So now the kids know what it means to give up, thanks to Chuck

It was an embarrassing performance from the Cavs in front of their home fans. They were playing for pride, but they seemed to have no hope or energy in Game 4.
Charles Barkley believes LeBron James is the answer to the Cavs’ problems
LeBron James is coming off a historic 23rd season in the NBA. He led his team to the Western Conference Semifinals after beating the Houston Rockets in the first round. His contract with the Los Angeles Lakers comes to an end this year.
While it is likely that he will return for his 24th season, his future is still up in the air. There have been a lot of reports that he will return to the Cavs and end his career. But it appears that there are multiple suitors for the four-time champion.

On Inside The NBA, Draymond Green called out the Cavs for their lack of leadership and questioned them on who their leader is. Charles Barkley was quick to respond to Green.
I’ve got an answer to that question. That would be LeBron James. That’d be it.

Draymond: “Nobody from Cleveland is stepping up. There’s no leadership. Who’s walking in that locker room saying what you have to do and what we need to do?”

James has shown the NBA world he can still tap into his role as the primary player. The Cavs made it to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since James’ departure in 2018.
However, the Cavs did try to make a statement that they were going all in this year after trading for James Harden at the trade deadline. But the former MVP has been poor throughout the playoffs and was not the answer to the franchise’s playoff woes.
