The New York Knicks, led by Jalen Brunson, are just one win away from a place in the NBA Finals this year. It will be their first finals appearance since 1999 as they look to win their first championship in 53 years.

Despite being 2-0 up in the series, the Knicks came out all guns blazing from tip-off in Game 3. In the end, they secured a convincing 121-108 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Rocket Arena on Saturday night.

After going down 2-1 in the first round against the Atlanta Hawks, the Knicks won the next three games and then swept the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

With a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Knicks are currently on a 10-match winning streak in the postseason. They became the tenth team ever to hold such a streak in the playoffs. Seven of the previous nine teams went on to lift the NBA championship.

It feels like a lifetime ago since the New York Knicks last tasted defeat. They have been nearly flawless in this period and have completely dominated the Cavs in this series. Meanwhile, the Cavs have been poor after their historic meltdown in Game 1.

The 10-match win streak is the longest winning streak in franchise history. Prior to their dream run, their longest playoff winning streak (in the same season) was a six-game run in 1999. They went on to lose the NBA Finals to the San Antonio Spurs in five games that year. Coincidentally, they could face the Spurs in the final once again this year.

Jalen Brunson led the Knicks in an all-round display

After an Eastern Conference Finals finish last year, many questioned whether Jalen Brunson is the right man to take the Knicks all the way. But the Knicks guard has stepped up for his team whenever it mattered the most in these playoffs, and he did so once again on Saturday night.

Brunson led the scorers with a game-high 30 points to go along with six assists. All five starters of the Knicks recorded double-digit points in Game 3. They even got 23 points off the bench with Landry Shamet scoring 14 points.

As a team, the Knicks shot at 56% from the field and made 39% of their three-pointers. They were solid defensively as well, as they restricted Donovan Mitchell and James Harden to just 23 and 19 points, respectively.

The Knicks are on a historic run and will be looking to end this series in Game 4. They have won their five road games, another record in franchise history. With the Cavs looking mentally and physically fatigued, the Knicks have a good chance of recording consecutive clean sweeps.

The Knicks’ fans have earned a reputation as the most passionate fan base in the NBA. While they turn up the volume at Madison Square Garden, they do the same on the road as well.

In the previous round, Joel Embiid requested that 76ers fans not sell their tickets, as Knicks fans had famously taken over the Xfinity Mobile Arena. It was no different in Game 3 in Cleveland as Knicks fans made their voices heard all over the arena.

After the game, Donovan Mitchell spoke about the Knicks fans taking over Cleveland.

I’m from New York. This doesn’t shock me. They do it in every arena. It’s like Cowboys fans … It’s how Knicks fans are. I was one back in the day.

The Knicks are closer than ever to an NBA championship. If they go through, they await the winner between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Spurs. The defending champions currently lead the series 2-1.
