Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen are all set to take their grid penalties for the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix. As per the regulations, every driver is allowed to take a fixed amount of engines or else serve the given penalty varying from 5 places to starting at the bottom of the pack.
Belgian Grand Prix is probably one of the best tracks to take a Grid Penalty because of the overtakes Spa provides. Charles and Max are taking a new power unit and a gearbox as well. Leclerc is in his second penalty position, last time was in Canada when he finished 5th. Max Verstappen is in his first grid penalty position.
Leclerc will be taking MGU K and a new energy store. Max will be taking MGU H and K with Internal combustion engines and Turbochargers. Other than the two protagonists, McLaren’s Lando Norris, Alpine’s Esteban Ocon, Haas’s Mick Schumacher and Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas will all be required to start from the back of the grid after their teams opted to make the changes at Spa.
Title shake up with Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen’s penalty
As everyone wants a close title fight, penalties would play a decent role in the championship. With both protagonists starting from the back, there are more possibilities for anyone of them to crash out and give the other one a free pass. But if things stay normal, the title won’t really move a bit with Max Verstappen sticking to the lead and Charles hoping to follow him down.
The two winners are starting from the back, leaving Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez open to an opportunity for their second win. Not pulling the Mercedes out of the point, being the most reliable and consistent team on the grid they have an equal probability for them to pull out the first win for the team this season.
Title fight standings would hinder a bit other than the top two. Max is in lead with 80 points ahead of Charles. Things get spicier after that, with Perez chasing down Charles
