The 50/50 split between electrical and combustion power under the 2026 regulations have changed whole F1 racing Dynamic as a whole. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc has recently expressed his frustration with rules, suggesting it punishes drivers who push the limits of grip. Overtaking now depends more on energy availability and deployment than pure instinct, making it less rewarding for creative driving.

Post Suzuka qualifying, Charles Leclerc expressed his grief, by calling the new regulations a “shame,” as they reward consistency in energy management more than bravery. In his view, attempting something heroic in the car no longer guarantees an advantage, but instead introduces a risk that may not be worth taking.

At the moment, it feels like consistency is paying off more than being brave and going to try something you’ve never tried before, which is a shame, and which makes qualifying a little bit less challenging.

Charles Leclerc said in an interview.

Under the new regs overtaking is majorly driven by the usage of battery deployment and energy management. Energy must be harvested and used carefully to make moves on the track. Racers often spend extra energy to aggressively compete, and it leaves them vulnerable on the next straight, turning into a strategic thinking rather than a display of pure skills according to Charles Leclerc.

Whenever you play with those limits, not only do you pay the price of a small snap, but you also pay triple the price in the straights.

Charles Leclerc ‘could be tempted’ by sensational move to Ferrari’s F1 rivals

As the Tifosi continue their wait for the championship glory, Charles Leclerc stands on career crossroads. The 2026 F1 regulations combined with Ferrari’s inconsistent form have surrounded the fellow driver’s decision making to long term commitments to justify clear progress.

Even though his loyalty to the horse remains strong, the interest from F1 rival teams and speculation fueled by voices like Jolyon Palmer might test his bond with Ferrari. Adding to the conversation, Palmer stated that Charles is capable of winning a championship, but if the Scuderia doesn’t show the winning intent in strategies and engines this year then he might be tempted to test his loyalty with Ferrari.

Having been with Ferrari since 2019, Leclerc has only secured 8 race wins and no championship, with poor strategy from the team often letting him down. Pouring fuel to the ongoing speculation after Max Verstappen’s retirement threats, Palmer suggested that a potential vacancy at Red Bull Racing could open the door for Leclerc. Hypothetically if Verstappen leave RB, he might be “tempted away” to joining the Austrians.

If Ferrari can’t show this year that they can be capable of winning a title, I think he’s someone that can be tempted away. Would he be tempted enough to go to Red Bull? I still think there’s a title in him.”

Jolyon Palmer said on F1 Nation podcast

Charles Leclerc’s verdict on the new regulations highlights a shift towards strategic management over pure driver bravery. Scuderia Ferrari’s inconsistency since 2010’s makes it much harder for a driver to take such risks.

So, he might get tempted to join a team like Red Bull, a side that has historically been known to take risks, given the Austrian team can field faster cars under the new regs, as right now the Reds are the better choice for the Monégasque.
