It’s almost a month removed since Ilia Topuria bagged the vacant 155-pound gold at the UFC 317 PPV main event with a brutal first-round KO. Veteran lightweight Charles Oliveira, the man at the receiving end of it, does not have a fight booking yet. Well, the ball’s in his court as ‘Do Bronx’ at least has a call out now. The battle of ‘blonde brawlers’ if it comes to fruition will feature Oliveira vs. Dan Hooker.

The loss at UFC 317 brought Charles Oliveira down to 2-3 in his last few. TKOed and ‘knocked’ down before, the fighter said he was never knocked out in such a fashion before, and was out of it for most of the sequence.

Hence, Oliveira was prescribed even half a year out in rest without any active camp. However, there isn’t any rest for the weary and wicked when the gold-seeking ‘Hangman’ Hooker comes calling. Oliveira himself is yet to answer the callout, as of now.

Someone wake up Charlie Olives and tell him we fighting in November.

Hooker is fresh off an impressive decision win over Mateusz Gamrot last year. While riding high, he recently had to withdraw from the UFC 313 PPV event in March due to a broken hand, canceling his bout against Justin Gaethje. This would be a further barrage to his previously unfused bone from his surgery (during the span of UFC 290 vs. Jalin Turner).

However, on a 3-fight streak and already projected to be a visceral challenge for Max Holloway’s next BMF defense, the #6-ranked fighter is ready to go for the fall. A win over a name like Oliveira pushes Dan Hooker to the frontline like no one else.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian superstar is without direction. Justin Gaethje is poised to be a title challenger, having won three out of his last four. No.2-ranked lightweight Arman Tsarukyan is perched up, waiting for his shot, as is Paddy Pimblett. Right now, even Holloway makes the case for a Topuria-shaped PPV title rematch.

Oliveira is #3 in the ranking; a win over Hooker puts him up for at least a title eliminator at top order, and maybe even title rematch talks given how he wins. If not Oliveira, Hooker is ready to light a match to the Tsarukyan rivalry candle again, and it bolsters his title shot dreams just the same.

Dan Hooker touts bold challenge to recent enemy Arman Tsarukyan

Back when he was the #1-ranked fighter, Dan Hooker was keen on the Tsarukyan option. The Armenian missed his calling due to a back injury and pulled out of the UFC 311 PPV title booking. This opened a room to a handful of disses aimed at the rival.

Hooker even blasted the lightweight for (allegedly) getting cozy, trying to impress model-turned MMA content creator Nina-Marie Daniele, thus hurting his back. Tsarukyan was demonstrating some lively wrestling rolls on his head for Marie Daniele’s YT Channel during UFC 311 PPV “Embedded” Vlog shoots.

There was a speculative narrative that Tsarukyan hurt his back doing those rolls, and the Kiwi lightweight picked up on the scent. The son of a rich construction mogul, Tsarukyan, caught fire that ‘daddy’ couldn’t buy his rich son some backbone to keep on in the fight. Now, after months, Hooker is ready to get back to this rivalry — if it means it’ll get him a title opportunity from here on out.

On a side note Armans a bi*ch and he can get it too, daddy’s home.

Tsarukyan’s last win before this was a split decision over Charles Oliveira that slated him for the title challenger role. Now, he has been sitting ready to climb the ladder again and even wanted a late summer PPV booking. With how things are moving, the Armenian star might just as well be open to a fall return.

There’s a Perth Fight Night booked at RAC Arena, followed by the debut at ABHA Arena, Doha, Qatar. The latter seems more glorious for such a fight, with clear title eliminator undertones. Recently, UFC 321: Aspinall vs. Gane also got booked for the famed Etihad Arena and could find these two scrapping. One way or the other, both fighters are keen on getting a top shot at the title.
