The lightweight superstar, Charles Oliveira is looking to take a shot at the UFC lightweight title. The Brazilian MMA fighter was last seen in the Octagon in December 2020 against the former lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson. Charles Oliveira is coming off a terrific record of 8 consecutive wins.

The standout fighter is ranked #3 in 155 pounds division. He is one of the main contenders for the lightweight title. The Brazilian was offered a fight against, former Bellator champion, Michael Chandler. As per the reports from AG Fight, Charles Oliveira and his team have turned down the fight against Chandler.

Charles Oliveira’s coach, Diego Lima, has told that they have turned down the fight due to the short-notice nature of the fight. He also stated that the fight’s stakes didn’t motivate the Brazilian. The fight proposed by UFC was not a title-contending fight.

“Charles had never been so close to the belt and it’s important to note that he worked hard for that,” Lima said. “The fans and even Poirier recognized that. Today is Feb. 1. It makes no sense for us to accept a title eliminator for 11 days from now.

“Charles needs time to lose weight, we lose about two days with visa stuff, and of course we need to prepare for the fight itself. Our goal was to fight for the belt against Poirier, but if Poirier will not fight for the belt and the UFC wants to make the Chandler fight for the belt, no problem.”

Charles Oliveira reveals that he will fight very soon

The Brazilian lightweight told ESPN that he will be fighting a top-ranked fighter very soon and the terms of the fight have been agreed upon. Charles Oliveira declined to reveal the name of the fighter as of now. The fight is supposed to happen on February 13.

The UFC is on the brink of figuring out their new fight for UFC 258. The cancellation of the Chris Weidman and Uriah Hall puts pressure on the UFC.

The spotlight is on the UFC Lightweight title as Khabib is yet to be stripped from it. Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveira are the top contenders. Both the top fighters mutually agree that the fight between them will be the right way to go about it.
