Chase Daniel unnecessarily launches verbal attack on Jalen Hurts despite his Super Bowl-winning performance

Chase Daniel isn't ready to call the Eagles' Jalen Hurts a top 5 quarterback even after reaching multiple Super Bowls and winning one.

What does Jalen Hurts have to do to get Chase Daniel’s approval? Not that he’s probably looking for it, but even winning the Super Bowl doesn’t make him a top 5 quarterback, so what’s left?

The former Commanders, Saints, and Chiefs QB turned NFL analyst, during a recent segment of FS1’s The Facility, claimed that Jalen Hurts is not a top 5 quarterback. The 26-year-old didn’t even crack the top 7.

There are only four [quarterbacks] right now that I would take to start a franchise with, quite honestly… Let me rephrase that. There are more than four guys that I would take above Jalen Hurts to start a franchise today.

Chase Daniel declared

Shady’s (LeSean McCoy) reaction pictured the atmosphere inside the FOX Studio perfectly. Hurts just stopped the Kansas City Chiefs team from a three-peat. The same Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, defeated the Philadelphia Eagles two years earlier.

It doesn’t matter. In Daniel’s book, Jalen Hurts is not a top 5 quarterback.

I don’t want to start a [NFL] franchise with Jalen Hurts. He might be 8, 9, or 10 on that list [maybe more]… If I want to start a franchise today and build a team around him, Jalen Hurts is not in the top 9 or 10 of those guys.

Chase Daniel added

In the same argument, Hurts got demoted to the 9th best from the 7th. That slide was even faster than Shedeur Sanders slipping down the draft order.

Again! What must Jalen Hurts do to break into Chase Daniel’s top 5 quarterback list? The Eagles’ fans look away; Hurts didn’t make Tyreek Hill’s top 5 as well. Is the consensus really stuck on Saquon Barkley hard-carrying the Eagles?

Is Chase Daniel a Jalen Hurts hater?

Daniel has been critical of several players in the past. Hurts is not an exception. Previously, the 38-year-old took a cheap shot at Trey Lance during his barren spell with the Cowboys.

The Philly fans might have enjoyed Lance’s bashing, but that doesn’t mean they will let Daniel go free if they ever come face-to-face. Daniel’s colleague Nick Wright has a juicy story to tell of what happens when Eagles’ fans are angry.

So, does the criticism mean Chase Daniel hates Jalen Hurts?

It can be harsh, but sometimes it’s warranted when he doesn’t do the things they [Nick Sirianni] ask him to do… I’m not a big Jalen Hurts hater; I just want to see him let go of football [more] in 50-50 ball situations.

Daniel was onto something. The Eagles ran the ball a lot. It even got on the Eagles fan’s nerves once. So, he can’t be entirely wrong about it. The former Bear has a solution for the Eagles on how to get the best out of the Pro Bowler.

He also throws a really good deep ball, [but] I don’t think you want Jalen Hurts reading these extremely complicated route concepts.

The Eagles didn’t change their tactics midway through the season. It makes zero sense to suddenly use Plan B when Plan A is a massive success. Hurts in every game gave the ball to Barkley, and he ran riot in the opposition’s defense. As simple as it can be.

Playing to the player’s strength is the smartest tactic from a coach. Nick Sirianni and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore (now Saints’ head coach) used Hurts’ monstrous strength successfully almost every time the team required a one- or two-yard down or a touchdown. Hurts collected 14 TDs by using their original ‘tush push’ or the ‘brotherly shove.’

When reporters tried to grill Hurts with daunting questions about his role in the Eagles squad, Hurts nonchalantly replied, every game is different.

My role in each game will be different. And the approach in each game is different. You just want to go out there and do your job and take advantage of [every] opportunity [you get].

No matter how Chase Daniel feels about Jalen Hurts, the Bama product is a bonafide NFL superstar and earns a mouth-watering $55 million per year. Interestingly, he still prefers to live with his family in Houston and rents a house during the season in Philly.
