The NASCAR Cup series have one of the longest seasons of any premier motor racing series in the world. Including the two non-points races, a Cup season features 38 races and if the Daytona duels is added to the list, the number becomes 40. So, from March to November the racing fans have a lot of content coming there way.
But according to the most popular driver in NASCAR, Chase Elliott the sport can try reducing the total number of races. He backed his argument that was made in The Teardown podcast with the example of College Football. The HMS driver highlighted how the short season is a major part of the success the Football championship is enjoying.
Chase Elliott pointed out that NASCAR should use some of the “I miss it” sentiment from the fans by having the smaller number of events. The reduction of supply will inflate the demand and the sport can use it grow further. It isn’t easy to employ this strategy as there is a lot of racing happening around the world that might attract some NASCAR fans away from the sport, so they have to find the right balance.
I think that’s cool, and I think that our sport could use a little more of, ‘Man, I missed that, and I really wish there was a race on this weekend,’ and you know, that sucks that it’s not, but man, when it does come back, I’m going to be really fired up to watch it. I think that’s healthy. I think less is more.Chase Elliott said via The Teardown podcast.
Chase Elliott reveals Rick Hendrick’s wife demands championship from HMS drivers
Before the start of the Next-Gen, Hendrick Motorsports was dominating the sport, by winning back-to-back championship. But with the new car they failed be make the final step and win the title. The team desperately wants to win one and as Chase Elliott revealed, Mrs. Hendrick wants it the most and has already demanded it from the HMS crew.
She was pretty serious about it the other day. It was great. She’s awesome and just hearing that type of motivation from somebody else that’s not the boss, it was neat. Glad to have her invested.Chase Elliott said during the media day.
With all four of the HMS drivers in the playoff and in contention for the championship, she has every right to make the demands and now it’s up to the racers to make that dream a reality. If they can execute well on and off the track consistently, they can easily win the championship considering their main rivals JGR is struggling a bit in the post-season.
