While talking to the media about the future of NASCAR, Chase Elliott pointed out that the discussion around the electric side of the world has been going on for a long-time. I don't know, I'm not sure where they want to go. Obviously, there's a lot of talk of, you know, what the electric side of the world is going to bring. I think that's going to be driven. To me, that's the most popular question, right? You know, and I'm sure that's kind of what you're getting at with that, but I don't really know.Chase Elliott said ahead of Chicago race.
He went onto assert that society is going to be the determining factor for NASCAR embracing EVs more than anything else. Elliott claimed that with in the next 10-20 years the decisions over suitability would be made and NASCAR would choose the path the society has taken as they will be forced to do so.
I think society is going to determine that probably more than anything as time goes. What laws are going to be put in place over the course of the next 10 to 20 years and ultimately trickle down and force them to have to make a change, you know, or not, but I don't know.Chase Elliott added.
Chase Elliott highlights how big of a change Next-Gen cars was
The 2022 season saw the introduction of the Next-Gen cars to the sport. The changes made it to the cars was one the biggest ever and according to Chase Elliott there has never been such drastic changes ever made.
Since I’ve been here, it’s been the transition to the Next Gen car, for sure. I mean, and honestly, I’m not sure there’s ever been a change that is quite that large or a change that has been that much of a departure from a previous generation vehicle.Chase Elliott said.
A change to EVs would be a change on a bigger level than the Next-Gen car change as the teams would lose most advantages they have and would also find it hard get back on top. But a change towards suitability is inevitable in NASCAR, if its EVs or anything else.
