Chelsea ease through the Morecambe test as Timo Werner and Kai Havertz get on the scoresheet
Chelsea scored 4 past Morecambe to bounce back after a string of losses in the Premier League. The London giant’s displayed a dominant performance to get back on track.
The FA Cup third round match was played at Chelsea’s home Stamford Bridge which saw Kai Havertz and Timo Werner gain some confidence through their respective goals.
Chelsea get back to winning ways against Morecambe
Kepa Arrizabalaga got a start in the lineup as Frank Lampard fielded a strong side and made sure to take no chances. This was Kepa’s first Chelsea start since November. He last featured in the UEFA Champions League match against Krasnodar. A clean sheet will do his confidence a lot of good.
Hakim Ziyech too returned to the starting line up. The Moroccan international was missing after suffering a hamstring injury against Leeds United and partnered Callum Hudson Odoi.
Chelsea’s first goal came after a thunderous strike from attacking midfielder Mason Mount. The young English international struck a blow with his right foot to leave the goalkeeper stranded.
Timo Werner is back on the scoresheet
Timo Werner was on a goal drought with eleven matches which he finally ended. The German international desperately needed some confidence after some dismal performance in the Premier League.
A lovely ball into the penalty region from Hakim Ziyech which was met by Kai Havertz who passed the ball to Werner for an easy finish.
Callum Hudson Odoi scored the third goal for Chelsea after yet another assist for Hakim Ziyech. The Moroccan international’s impact for Chelsea is unparalleled.
Kai Havertz gets a confidence booster
The last and final goal came from Kai Havertz.Some great footwork from Tammy Abraham released Cesar Azpillecueta on the right who delivered a peach of a delivery in.
Havertz rose the highest to head the ball in. A goal and an assist for the German. Chelsea will be facing Fulham next in the Premier League ok January 14th
