Chelsea set to exit European Super League after fan protests

Chelsea set to quit the European Super League
Chelsea were one of the 12 teams who joined hands together to announce the formation of a new European Super league on Monday. The announcement completely shook up the European football structure as fans and UEFA officials joined together to criticize the league which is intended to run parallel to the UEFA Champions League.
However, in the wake of the numerous fan protests which have called for the club to withdraw from the cash-rich league, Chelsea may be the first team to exit the competition. The development comes ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League match against Brighton on Tuesday at Stamford Bridge.
Manchester City are expected to follow along the similar lines as Chelsea and want an exit from the Super League

Reports suggest that another Premier League club, namely Manchester City are considering the option of breaking out of the European Super League. Reports have also claimed that these two clubs joined initially on the fears that they might miss out on the financial benefits of the cash-rich league.
Incidentally, it is to be noted that both Chelsea and Manchester City are funded by foreign owners in Roman Abramovich and The City Football Group respectively. The fan protests, which has developed over the last few days have made both clubs reconsider their decision.
The protests have grown even further just before Chelsea’s Premier League fixture against Brighton. fans did not allow the Chelsea team bus to enter the Stamford Bridge and Petr Cech had to come out to handle the situation. The former Chelsea goalkeeper pleaded with fans to allow them inside.

Although City are half way through their decision it seems that Chelsea have agreed to come out of the European Super League effective immediately and an official announcement should be made soon.
