Chelsea Football Club have seen a major shift in transfer strategy ever since Todd Boehly took charge of the club. The American businessman has brought about a shift in strategy which has seen the club purchase players like no other in the sport. As the Blues head into the 2024/25 season, fans were puzzled and surprised to learn that the club have brought in yet another striker.
As per Fabrizio Romano, the club have shelled out another £35 million for Atletico Madrid player Samu Omorodion. It is understood that the player will join on a whopping seven-year deal, as academy product Conor Gallagher joined Atletico Madrid. It is surprising to notice that Chelsea already have a tried and tested striker in Nicolas Jackson.
Chelsea already have a mind-boggling 45 first-team players registered for the upcoming season and the addition of Omorodion only makes the list longer.
Newly appointed head coach Enzo Maresca has a mammoth task at hand if he is to find a winning formula with the large pool of stars at his disposal.
Fans react to Chelsea bringing in yet another player for the 2024/25 season
It isn’t difficult to understand why rival fans constantly make fun of Chelsea for their poor performances. Despite spending more than £1 billion on players since Boehly’s takeover, the club have failed to make a significant impact in any format of the sport. As the Blues prepare to head into yet another campaign, a fan commented that the club has enough players in the first team to field four separate starting XI’s.
A fan added that the club are probably unaware that they can make use of the same players for more than one game in a row. Another added that FFP rules somehow weren’t applicable for the Blues and that they were ‘ruining’ the sport with their excessive spending. A supporter still couldn’t believe how the management convinced Boehly to keep buying players despite having world class talent within their ranks.
The club have been far from impressive in pre-season, only picking up a single win out of the five games they played. Their last game before the start of the Premier League is against reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan and are on the back of a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid.
Enzo Maresca put all the blame on the rules of the Premier League when asked to explain why the club got rid of academy product Conor Gallagher. It remains to be seen whether Samu Omorodion will join a long list of ‘flops’ purchased by the clubs in recent seasons.
