“Rare skip W” – Chet Holmgren publicly sides with Skip Bayless take on Thunder teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
SGA has a lot of reasons to be the MVP this year.
Shai-Gilgeous Alexander and Skip Bayless
The Oklahoma City Thunder have finally established the first seed in the West. Led by Shai-Gilgeous Alexander and a young core, the OKC Thunder have topped the West with a record of 57-25.
Not only that, the star guard has finished second in the MVP ladder and is the favorite to win his first. Shai’s scoring improvement has been visible this season, as have his numbers.
OKC fans are rooting for Shai to win the MVP, along with some critics. Skip Bayless recently tweeted about the Thunder’s regular season record and the chances of Shai winning the MVP.
That’s not all; his teammate, Chet Holmgren, agreed on the same without any hesitation. Holmgren and Shai make up a great duo on the court, with the upcoming MVP ball out with the future All-Star.
Rare skip W.Wrote Holmgren.
Shai has put up 30.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game while shooting over 53% from the field. He’s also played the most games this season since his rookie year.
Looking at his numbers and contribution to winning percentage year by year, Shai deserves a chance at MVP this season. However, SGA has three Europeans standing in his way to his first MVP award.
Shai-Gilgeous Alexander has an edge on the MVP ladder
While players like Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo have had exceptional seasons, apart from Jokic, none of the players on the MVP ladder have bagged as many wins as SGA.
Apart from the wins and topping the West, Shai has played more games and has still managed to keep up with his numbers and performance. Shai wasn’t healthy all season long, having dealt with a quad injury at the start of this month. Regardless, the star has recovered successfully and is ready for the postseason.
With the playoffs approaching, SGA and the Thunder will look to make a dominant postseason appearance. The last time the Thunder made their appearance in the playoffs was back in the NBA bubble.
Since then, the team has changed its look completely, covering all aspects of the roster. They have a reliable scorer, an emerging All-Star potential center, and great depth in their lineup.
As of now, the Thunder will be facing the winner of the play-in tournament. Facing either the Pelicans, the Lakers, or the Dubs, the Thunder look pretty solid and confident heading into the postseason. The squad is healthy, with no recent injuries reported. The MVP-led OKC Thunder are a serious threat in the playoffs.
