General Motors and Chevrolet has been a significant partner of NASCAR since the very beginning of the series. The story of stock car racing is very much the story of Chevy and now it seems they are taking a bad turn. It is being reported that Chevy has decided to drop the Camaro for the 2025 season and beyond.

This was an inevitable decision, considering Chevrolet stopped the production of Camaro in the 2023 season. As seen in the recently leaked images of 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion Chase Elliott’s UniFirst paint scheme for the 2025 season, HMS has removed the Camaro branding, and the car is just now the Chevy ZL1.

Just think about it, in 2025 Ford will field the Mustang Dark Horses, Toyota will field that Camry XSE and then there is Chevy with their Chevy ZL1. This vouge advertising offers them nothing in terms of marketing a car. It goes against the win on Sunday and sell on Monday moto the OEM had over the years in the sport.

Chevy and GM need to get their act together to have a properly branded car for the 2025 NASCAR Cup season. If they failed to do so, the negative reaction from the motorsports community and the fans would worsen their already poor situation. There are a lot of passionate chevy NASCAR fans in the sport and a significant number of them will heartbroken with this change.

GM can change the game with replacing Chevy in NASCAR

Though it is a tough situation to be in for Chevy and GM, is also an opportunity for them to make some big investment for the future. GM is set to enter the Formula one world championship in the 2026 season with Cadillac, and replacing Chevy with them in NASCAR cam be a masterclass move.

They have raced in NASCAR, from 1949 to 1955, in the early years of the sport and now is racing in multiple series, including IMSA which is owned by NASCAR. So, a NASCAR operating, taking over Chevy won’t be a big headache for the team and will only help them to grow their brand to its former glory.

Cadillac coming into NASCAR would also help the sport, as they seem to garner more attraction in the racing market since the F1 announcement. Them coming in might influence other international OEMs to seriously think about coming into NASCAR.
