DK Metcalf is the kind of wide receiver who will make those who passed on drafting him regret their decision later. Kansas City Chiefs GM Brett Veach openly admitted that not selecting Metcalf in 2019, when he was available, is a regret he still feels to this day.

While speaking on the podcast ‘Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour’, NASCAR legend Kevin Harvick asked Brett Veach, who was the best player in a draft that the Chiefs did not get.

DK Metcalf might be a guy that stands out. I think there were some injury concerns. I think looking back at DK, there were areas that we weren't sure on. But there was none maybe that should have prompted us to bypass that. I think that's one player that sticks out.

Veach admitted that had they overlooked the concerns, they could have picked DK Metcalf in the 2nd round. The 6′ 4″ monster of a wide receiver could have been catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

In that 2019 draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Mecole Hardman Jr. with the 56th pick in the second round. Metcalf was still available and eventually went to the Seattle Seahawks eight picks later. Hardman Jr. was brought in to take the pressure off their former star receiver Tyreek Hill.

However, to date, he has not been able to match the dominating ability of either Hill or Metcalf. So much so that he was allowed to walk before the start of last season. Had Metcalf been on the team, the back-to-back champions would not be looking aggressively for a standout receiver for the past 4 years.

DK Metcalf and the Seattle Seahawks starting a new era

When DK Metcalf was signed by the Seattle Seahawks in 2019, he was welcomed by a shirtless Pete Carroll. Over his past 5 seasons, he has only experienced Carroll’s title-winning coaching, as he developed to become one of the most dominant receivers in the league.

Now, with Carroll in a different position, he will be under the watchful eye of new head coach Mike Macdonald. The Seahawks hired the former defensive coordinator to take them to the next level. Therefore, Metcalf and his teammates will be looking forward to changes in their game plans. However, it shines a bright future for a team loaded with rising stars.

The Seahawks want to return to challenging for Super Bowl titles. Therefore, they feel Macdonald is the way forward, or else they will be wasting the incredible talent of someone like DK Metcalf in his prime.
