Punjab Kings (erstwhile known as Kings XI Punjab) have come out all new and fresh for the IPL 2021 campaign. Right from a name change, to a new jersey and some fresh faces, the team has done it all and now the Punjab kings they would be eyeing for something as new as winning the IPL.

Chris Gayle has joined the Punjab Kings squad after completing his mandatory seven-day quarantine period. We all know how fun and jolly Gayle is and the entertainment he provides not only on the field but off-field too. He didn’t disappoint this time too as he had a fun session with his teammates Mandeep Singh, Arshdeep Singh, and Harpreet Brar. They all were seen doing the Thigh Five celebration during the training session.

Punjab Kings would want a much better showing this time around

Punjab Kings would look to turn things around this season after delivering a below-par performance in the last year. They ended up sixth on the points table last time. They had a bad start to the tournament winning only a single match in the first half despite KL Rahul delivering in almost every match. There was a lack of support from other batters and weak death bowling made it worse for them. Chris Gayle’s presence in the latter half made things look possible for them but was not enough to get through to the playoffs.

There were many critiques regarding the age and form of Chris Gayle during the IPL 2020 but he proved them wrong by notching 288 runs in just 7 matches and proving out to be a great No.3 batsman for the side. The 41-year-old Gayle continued to smash the bowlers all around the park and is expected to continue that form this season too.

The inclusion of Dawid Malan (who is the No.1 T20I batsman) in the Punjab Kings squad has given a headache to the management to chose between Gayle and him for the No.3 spot. To play both of them they would have to compromise with the overseas bowling option which they can’t afford to do as they struggled with that in the last season too.

A good season is expected from the Punjab Kings which will highly be depended on how they manage and rotate their players. Punjab Kings are scheduled to play against Rajasthan Royals in their opening game on 12th April at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
