Football is a physical sport which makes injuries a part of the game. In the NFL, players do get paid while being sidelined with injuries arising from playing on the gridiron. However, teams are not obliged to pay a player due to non-football injuries. But for Clyde Edwards-Helaire, the Kansas City Chiefs have made an exception. Something that came to the attention of star defensive tackle Chris Jones.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been diagnosed with a severe case of PTSD. Along with are his mental health issues which have seen him sidelined from all football-related activities. But the Kansas City Chiefs decided to continue to pay him. Jones, saw this notification on social media, which brought out a reaction on his official X account where he wrote;
Classy move…Chris Jones wrote on X
He understands what his franchise has done, as they do not need to pay a salary to a player dealing with non-football-related issues. It goes to show that the Chiefs are genuinely concerned for their player and want to support him through this trying time. They are vying for a three-peat and need all hands on deck to achieve that goal. Edwards-Helaire is no longer the starting running back for the Chiefs.
But the Chiefs made sure that he did not feel unwanted. It could help them down the line if he recovers and helps them be the first franchise in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls. Even if they don’t, Chris Jones knows this gesture will bode well both for the franchise as well as his teammate.
Chris Jones and Kansas City Chiefs to welcome the Baltimore Ravens to start season
Chris Jones knows Clyde Edwards-Helaire will not be available for their first game of this season. But he knows all too well that he and the rest of the team will have to be at their best on Thursday. They will welcome AFC rivals and fellow Super Bowl-contending Baltimore Ravens at home.
The game will be a battle of two of the best teams in the league. For Jones, it will be a testament to himself and his defensive line. They will go head-to-head against the intimidating combination of Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson. Jones knows what it is like to play against either of them. But with the two together, he and his defensive teammates will have their hands full.
They will have to read the offense and make adjustments on the fly if they are to stay on the winning side, as Jackson will be able to take full advantage of the mismatch his team presents. This Kickoff Game could set the tone for the season.
