Since the New York Jets traded in for Aaron Rodgers last offseason, there’s hardly been any week where the team hasn’t been in the headlines, and for the majority of times, it has been due to the veteran’s off-field activities. But it seems there’s one team or rather one person, who views this scenario as an opportunity for his team— George Kittle.
With the NFL 2024 season just a few days ahead, the Jets are all set to face off against last season’s NFC champion, the San Francisco 49ers. While talking about the most awaited NFC rivalry matchup, the latter’s wide receiver gave his brutally honest take on the Jets and Rodgers’ constant limelight.
Kittle shared that he wants the four-time NFL MVP and his team to gain more spotlight and make the headlines so people would be distracted from the preparations of the Niners and this way, they can blindside their opponents with strategic planning of the game.
I think what he's doing is just great PR. And he downplays it as much as he possibly can to limit the storylines. Just so the Jets can go out there and focus on playing football and beating the 49ers.George Kittle said during an interview on the Up & Adams show
The upcoming opening week’s match between New York and San Francisco is expected to be more exciting since Rodgers is entering after a year-long wait on the bench after sustaining a serious ACL injury last season in the opening week after planning just four snaps. As much as everyone is excited to see if the Jets have changed their playing dynamics, they are also eager to see if there’s going to be a repeat of last year.
George Kittle opens up about his relationship with Aaron Rodgers
While talking to Kay Adams, the star tight end also opened up about his relationship with the veteran quarterback. To everyone’s surprise, their relationship isn’t as close as it may seem. Kittle shared that he was introduced to Rodgers by Mercedes Lewis and Robert Tonyan.
It’s very limited. I literally know Aaron through Mercedes Lewis and Rob Tonyan. I think on football field a couple of times maybe off the football field once. But no, it’s not a lot. I just have massive respect for the guy.George Kittle said
Contrary to his words, the five-time Pro Bowler shared a special story on his Instagram account a few months ago with the Jets quarterback regarding their upcoming match, while tagging him and saying “See you soon!” After how things ended for the Niners last season, it seems the tight end is quite excited to mend his mistakes in the coming season and lead the team to Super Bowl glory.
