‘Anyone saying I celebrated when Anderson’s leg snapped is entirely wrong’ – Chris Weidman hits back at critics

‘Anyone saying I celebrated when Anderson’s leg snapped is entirely wrong’ – Chris Weidman hits back at critics

Chris Weidman walked into the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, last Saturday with great hopes. Little did he know what was waiting for him. Just 17 seconds into the fight against Uriah Hall, the All American’s leg snapped and he was writhing and grimacing in pain, as the referee waved off the fight.

Uriah Hall thereby became the first fighter in the history of the UFC to win a match without a single strike. Weidman was sent straight to the hospital, requiring surgery. Strikingly similar was Anderson Silva’s leg break at UFC 168, and his opponent at UFC 168? – Chris Weidman.

After beating Silva, Weidman goes on to celebrate not knowing that Silva had broken his leg. Only after realizing that Silva had broken his leg, a shattered Weidman goes towards Silva to check on him. Some fans recently pointed out to Weidman celebrating after beating Silva, whereas Hall was dejected right away and showed no joy.

There was no happiness on my behalf from that point on‘ – Chris Weidman

Weidman took to hit back at critics who claimed that Weidman wasn’t as respectful at UFC 168, as Hall was at UFC 261. He tweeted, “Anyone saying I celebrated when Anderson’s leg snapped is entirely wrong. I didn’t know his leg snapped. I just thought I checked his leg kick good, and he went down in pain, which often happens in sparring. Painful for a short time, but gets better quickly – kind of like a body shot.

He further wrote, “After circling the octagon, I realized that he was in severe pain by his yelling and immediately went and checked on him and tried to console him. That’s when I noticed him holding his leg in place. There was no happiness on my behalf from that point on. I then went and pushed security out of the way so his coaches could get into the octagon and he could have some familiar faces next to him during that horrific event.”

Weidman is currently recovering in a hospital after successfully undergoing surgery. He was recently posted a video on Instagram, where he could be seen walking with the help of the PT team. He also revealed in the post that he had trouble urinating due to the effect of anesthetics and painkillers.

Weidman also shared photos of X-rays pre-surgery and post-surgery. Hopefully, he recovers soon and comes back with a bang.
