Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jannik Sinner: Match Preview

Jannik Sinner is chasing his third title of the season. He started the season at the Australian Open only to defend his title by beating Alexander Zverev. The World No.1 then had to stay on the sidelines for three months due to his doping ban.

But upon returning, on the back of strong performances, he reached the final of the Italian Open and met Carlos Alcaraz for the first time this season. The result of the final ended in the Spaniard’s favor in straight sets.

They were next pitted against each other in the final of the French Open. It was Sinner’s first final at Roland Garros, and he was on the cusp of winning because he had a 2-0 lead and also had three championship points in the fourth set. Alcaraz held his nerves and saved those points, and after another tough set, he successfully defended his title.

Following the French Open heartbreak, the 24-year-old started his campaign on the grass swing at the Halle Open which he was playing to defend his title. But his run was ended in the second round by eventual winner Alexander Bublik.

Sinner left his French Open disappointment behind to focus on Wimbledon, where he reached the final for the first time and didn’t repeat his French Open mistakes against Alcaraz, taking his revenge on him with a four-set win. Sinner then skipped the Canadian Open.

Alcaraz also chose not to participate in the Toronto Masters 1000 and instead played the Cincinnati Open to start his campaign on the North American hard-court swing. The Australian Open was also Alcaraz’s first tournament of the season. He lost in the quarterfinal to Novak Djokovic, but at the Rotterdam Open next, he beat Alex de Minaur to lift his career’s first indoor hard-court title.

In the next three tournaments, Alcaraz failed to reach the final, including at the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open. But on the clay swing, the five-time Grand Slam champion reached four finals and lifted the Monte Carlo Masters, Italian Open, and the French Open. He continued his winning ways by lifting his career’s fourth grass-court title at the Queen’s Club Championships.

Alcaraz has now reached his eighth final of the season and is bidding to win his sixth title. Sinner is aiming to defend his title. He beat Frances Tiafoe last year.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jannik Sinner: Match Prediction

Alcaraz was the finalist in Cincinnati back in 2023 (lost the match to Djokovic). He has never lifted a title in the two North American hard-court Masters 1000 events held before the US Open.

But this could change on Sunday. He has an edge over Sinner when it comes to head-to-head matchups. Alcaraz holds an 8-5 win-loss record over the four-time Grand Slam champion and is also 2-1 this year.

Match Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in three sets.
