Sunday is going to be a busy day at the Western and Southern Open. One of the matches that will be the highlight of the day will be the second-round clash between No.1 seeded Karolina Pliskova and Veronika Kudermetova of Russia. The battle is going to be quite spicy as both players will like to win, in order to progress to the ‘Round of 16‘ and have a chance at winning the tournament.

When it comes to form, the 28-year old Pliskova has an edge over her 23-year old opponent. The Czech won Brisbane International this year, however, she got eliminated in the third round of the Australian Open. Talking about Kudermetova, she had first-round exits in the Australian Open and Prague Open this year.

While Pliskova got the first-round bye, Kudermetova defeated Tomaljanovic of Australia in a tough first-round match 5-7, 6-3, 7-5. This match, like the first round match of the Russian, can be tight. However, it is not expected to get that close. The Czech should comfortably win the encounter over her 41st ranked opponent. Although, Pliskova should be vary of any complacency against Kudermetova, as hard court is her favourite surface. Nevertheless, it will certainly be counted as an upset if the Russian manages to defeat the World No.3 Pliskova. It should be an enthralling match to watch.

Match Prediction: Karolina Pliskova defeats Veronika Kudermetova in a tight two-set match.
