The WTA tournaments finally resumed in August. Players stepped on the court to garner a few points before the US Open. While the highly ranked looked for a seed at the slam, the lower-ranked players strived to get a better chance at entering the draw.

The Top 20 rankings remain static

As we scroll through the ranking there has been no change for the top-seeded players. The World. No.1 Ashleigh Barty played no hard-court tournaments this season and yet holds her rank with 8717 points. Following her is Simona Halep with 6356 points. Halep clinched the WTA Prague Open title last week.

The top 10 players have held their position. From world no. 3 Karolina Pliskova, Sofia Kenin, Elina Svitolina, Bianca Andreescu, Kiki Bertens, Belinda Bencic, Serena Williams, and Naomi Osaka.

The others who have a tight grip on their rankings.

A major leap for blazing young guns

Jennifer Brady

Jennifer Brady won her first WTA title at Lexington Open and leaped nine ranks to be world no. 40. Brady’s performance outed the Swiss Jil Teichmann at the finals.

Coco Gauff

The teenager from US, Coco Gauff is steadily climbing up. She is now the 50th player in the WTA rankings. Gauff was last seen at the Top Seed Open and is scheduled to play the Cincinnati Open and US Open.

Jil Teichmann has risen nine seeds reaching world no. 52. Teichmann had an amazing WTA season reaching the Finals at Top Seed Open before losing the title to Brady.

A brief rise for some post their WTA performance

Elise Mertens

The recently culminated WTA tournaments in Palermo, Lexington and Prague provided some women players to rise up the charts.

Elise Mertens was earlier no.22. She took the place of three-time grand slam champion Angelique Kerber at no. 21. Mertens crashed out early at Palermo but made to the finals of Prague Open losing to Simona Halep.

Similarly, Magda Linette is the new World No. 35, after a decent show at Top Seed Open reaching the Pre-Quarter finals.

Krystina Pliskova and Venus Williams are World No. 63 and 64 respectively. They participated in the WTA tournaments recently and earned enough points to make a steady climb to the charts.

Fionna Ferro won a WTA title played at Palermo.Her happiness knew no bounds at she reached her ranking high of 44. Currently, she holds the 45th rank.

US Open offers 2000 points

US Open

The slam around the corner shall provide a long leap in the rankings to the winner. The slam offers a handsome prize money and 2000 points. As six players amongst the top 10 have decided to miss the slam, others will try to grab the opportunity.

Ashleigh Barty will have no worries and none player can match her lead. However, Halep could lose her rank provided Kenin wins the title. The American ace Serena Williams will become the world no.3 if she wins the title.
