Alexander Zverev will take on Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Open. This is the German star’s first meeting with the Spaniard this year. He’s seeking to reach his first ATP Masters 1000 final this season, having won a sole title at the Munich Open after beating World No.6 Ben Shelton in straight sets.

Nonetheless, Alcaraz has been the best player in the men’s circuit this season. With five titles to his name and just six losses this year, he has dominated the court, reaching seven tournament finals. He’s seeking to make it eight at the Cincinnati Open, where he reached the final in 2023 before losing to Novak Djokovic.

Alexander Zverev vs. Carlos Alcaraz: Match Preview

Alexander Zverev has won 43 of his 58 matches this season, which is not up to his best standard. The Paris Masters champion has not been able to match the form he showed at the Australian Open before losing to Jannik Sinner in the final. However, he began finding his match rhythm at the Canadian Open, where he reached the semi-finals.

Since arriving at the Cincinnati Open, he has yet to drop a set. He opened his campaign against Nishesh Basavareddy in the second round, winning 6-3, 6-3. The World No.3 then went on to beat Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 6-4 before getting past Karen Khachanov through retirement in the fourth round. He sealed his semi-finals place after beating Ben Shelton 6-2, 6-2.

On the other hand, Carlos Alcaraz has won 50 matches on tour and has won 37 of his last 39 matches. His last loss came against Jannik Sinner at the Wimbledon Championships final, where his 24-match winning streak ended in four sets. He opened his North American hard-court campaign at the Cincinnati Open.

He defeated Bosnian star Damir Dzumhur 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in the second round after earning a first-round bye. The 22-year-old then beat Hamad Medjedovic 6-4, 6-4 before ending Luca Nardi’s run in the fourth round. On Friday (August 15), Alcaraz defeated Andrey Rublev 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 in the quarter-finals in Cincinnati.

Alexander Zverev vs. Carlos Alcaraz: Match Prediction

Alexander Zverev is yet to reach the final of a Masters 1000 event this season. In fact, his best run in a 1000-level tournament this year was at the just-concluded Canadian Open, where he reached the semi-finals before losing to Karen Khachanov. The German star will now aim to get past the last four in Cincinnati.

Also, he holds a 6-5 lead over Alcaraz in the head-to-head record and has won five of their seven meeting on the court, including their last meeting at the ATP Finals last year, beating the Spaniard 7-6(5), 6-4. However, Alcaraz is in a better form currently than he was in November 2025.

The Spaniard has also won two Masters 1000 finals this year, including the Italian Open in May. Even though the Cincinnati Open is his first North American hard-court tournament, he has done well to adapt to the conditions. He is the favorite to win the clash on paper and has what it takes to do so if he plays his best tennis against the World No.3.

Match Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in three sets.
